A Gift Parlor - LOH #252
Lately, I have been brooding over a business idea that has refused to leave my mind. Though I have not shared it with anyone yet, the thought is thrilling.
The idea actually struck me while brainstorming what to get for my kids this Christmas and their next birthday—I know it might seem too early, but I like to plan ahead to stay on top of my financial game. For some reasons I could not seem to come up with a perfect gift, and I found myself wishing we had a specialized gift shop in the neighborhood where I am currently residing. There are plenty of stores and malls around me where you can find different items, but what I really wanted was a shop that focuses solely on gifts, and nothing else. I want a place where every one of their items displays "gifts"; let every corner of the shop be filled with thoughtful and creative gift ideas. A shop you walk into and the gifts are arranged in categories according to gender and age specifications.
Gifts are not just items you pass on to celebrants on their special occasion, which could either be a birthday, an anniversary, an event such as a wedding, house warming, birth of a child or death of a dear one, etcetera. A gift is an extension of your thoughts, contemplations and heart disposition towards the recipient of your gift. While other people may give gifts to the end that they are not categorized amongst those who attended a function or visited the celebrant(s) empty handed, I am deliberate about what my choice of gift is, as it communicates more than an item in a box means. I want my gift to speak to the celebrant, beyond the ecstasy of the occasion. These are the contemplations that occupy my mind when I go gift shopping. I want a gift that speaks, even in my silence.
So if given the chance and resources to establish a business, I would really love to pursue this idea of having a gift shop. I would really love to establish a creative space for people, a place that is more than just a store; it would be a place where people could find gifts that tell a story and create memories. Gifts that convey messages in a personal way, on a deeper level, with a more unique appeal and relatable feel.
