LOH Community Contest #294 ~ Being a Responsible Woman
What does being a responsible woman mean to you in today's world?
In today's world being a responsible woman means being married which automatically means being a virtuous woman, in the context of being submissive, being obedient, not neglecting your home and husband, not arguing with your husband, and following his lead in whatever he says and does.
Accepting that you are beneath him and he is the Lord over you, now I do not believe in a lot of that, but then still I do not find it offensive for whoever believes in it, as my theory about life is not the same as anybody's theory, and as such I respect it but then, I know how many times people have made it sound that being married is all there is to being a responsible woman and it has kept me speechless.
For the longest time I have been in this world, I think I have been a responsible woman, going by my own definition of "A responsible woman" and thinking that someone would tie my being a responsible woman to marriage is infuriating thinking about it now but then, I am beyond those things.
For myself, being a responsible woman means owning my shits, knowing myself, knowing my worth, value, and having integrity, being confident, and being able to take care of myself. It means being there not just for yourself but for families and friends who are around me, it means looking out for myself and others around me.
Being responsible means not following society, not timing my life according to how society tick it for me but according to how I want my life to go and where I want it to go, and when is suitable for me to go not because of society or peer pressure.
Being responsible is knowing that as a woman I have the options to be good and to be bad and I have the choice to make without anyone holding a cane at my back, being responsible means taking up the responsibility of catering for myself, maybe not totally but being able to not frequently reach out to my guardians or have them worried about me or have them worried about the next preposterous thing I will be doing that will keep them on their toes and afraid of picking up a strange call or my call.
