Laughter Does Heals: The Unforgettable Moments With My Favorite Uncle - LOH #221

I can remember vividly the last time I laughed so hard that my tummy ached and tears clouded my face. So it happened that my uncle came around to visit us, we call him uncle Jude. Uncle Jude happens to be that one family member who can make anyone and everyone laugh without even puting much effort. He has this way of telling ordinary stories sound like epic adventures, another about him his the fact that he's very good at mimicking, dont even go there, if you are out and uncle Jude calls you,he might decide to use my mums time of voice or my dads own, it is when you get in you will find out he was actually the one trying to play you.

That particular day, we were sitting outside after dinner, and everyone was just talking and laughing, then suddenly, out of nowhere, uncle Jude starts telling us about his experience at the market earlier in the day. He was trying to buy some plantain but he go into a misunderstanding with the seller. He described it in a way that was funny, he played/acted the womans part, micmicking her voice too and also played his own part, he does it in a very funny way, and it was easy for him to switch roles. He also acted how the pastor preached on a Sunday service too, wow, everyone was dumbfounded, this pastor was my church pastor and that was the first Sunday uncle Jude will be hearing him preach, how could he have known to mimick him this much. . The way he made it sound, you’d think it was the pastor himself, and my pastor is a funny man too, the way he preaches and gesticulate, my uncle did it all. I swear, my stomach hurt from laughing so much, and at one point, I couldn’t breathe properly. It was one of those laughs that just takes over your body, and you’re left with tears rolling down your cheeks.

One thing about Uncle Jude is that he’s not just funny, he’s the kind of person who makes everyone feel at ease. He can be very serious also, hes intelligent as well,I guessed that's why he's my favorite. He’s the family member everyone turns to when they need advice or just a moment of laughter to brighten their day, theres never a dull moment with him, even when discussions seems to get tensed and all he finds a way to lighten up everyones mood and then continue the discuss. I think what makes him so special to me is that he’s always been there, not just as a source of comic/funny stuff, but as someone who genuinely understands life’s ups and downs. Hes someone who would listen to you, he won't judge you he's just too special. Even if he shares a story or anything to make you learn and all, he would definitely make you laugh long last. Sometimes I wonder what sort of person he is, he can be serious and at the same time unserious..smiles.

Uncle Jide my favorite family member, I can say that anywhere, he's the only one who makes me feel heard, valued and important. His jokes may not always be the funniest, but it’s the way he delivers them, his timing, his interchanging tone/voice and that mischievous twinkle in his eye that makes them unforgettable. Even when he’s teasing me, I never feel hurt or embarrassed because I know he's just playing. And uncle Jude knows I like food, oh no, except if he's not around, I will eat till I confess I want no more.

I remember a time I was feeling down about something, I told him and he invited me over to his place. We didn’t do anything special, we just sat, ate some snacks, and some little discussion and by the time I left, my mood had completely lifted. He knows exactly how to make me feel better without making a big deal out of it.

Whenever I look back at that day I laughed till my stomach hurt, I realize that it wasn’t just about the funny story. It was about him (Uncle Jude), how he can blend everything together so easily and can turn any day with him to one someone will always remember. He makes me feel loved, he listens and all. Uncle Jude is and will always be my favorite family member.
