Preparation? Yes, that was what I have already done.
I live in a region of Canada that has been susceptible to earthquakes and tsunami and our officials warned everyone to make preparations amounting to at least three days worth of food, water, and essentials in the event of a major earthquake that would damage power, water distribution and an estimated minimum loss of 50% of buildings and homes. From recent examples all over the world I estimated four weeks as more realistic. I stocked sufficient food, a special water filter system, a tent, fuel heating and a solar powered generator as starting point. I hope it doesn't happen in winter.

Two winters ago there was an upper Fraser valley flood and it took far too long, much more than three days, for the Government to mobilize. That would be small compared to a magnitude 8+ earthquake could do. Victims were literally left out in the cold.

Good citizens had to step in where Government failed, so I won't fully rely on the authorities but expect to rely on our neighbors and ourselves.
