I have come to believe that timelines and occurrences are rarely just coincidences.. Sometimes life has a strange way of moving us away from the things we think we want and quietly pushing us toward the things we are actually meant to do....

Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer.. Not the kind of childhood dream you mention when someone asks you what you want to become and then forget about five minutes later... I was genuinely obsessed with being a lawyer and everyone could see that i genuinely loved everything about the courtroom so anytime I had the opportunity I would ask my parents to take me to the courthouse just so I could sit somewhere and watch court proceedings then my parents noticed how serious I was about it and instead of dismissing it as a childhood phase, they supported me completely encouraged my curiosity and even allowed me to explore my interest as much as I wanted.
Then I got into secondary school.
During my junior year, I met someone who was alot like me... We shared the same interest in law and as fate would have it, his father was a magistrate.... That was almost too perfect for us.
After school, we would sometimes go over to his house and talk about the things we had seen in court. We were young, but we took our ambitions seriously because In our minds we were already lawyers and by the time I finished my junior year, I had already convinced myself that I would become a great lawyer one day... I didn't just want to practice law, i wanted to go all the way and eventually become a Senior Advocate.
Then came my senior year.
On my first day, I was assigned to a new class and i was so excited... I expected a fresh beginning with new subjects, and an environment where I could focus on my studies but instead I walked into what felt like a marketplace...
It was very funny... there was a teacher in the classroom, but nobody seemed particularly interested in learning.... People were talking, making noise and moving around as if there was no lesson taking place... I remember being genuinely uncomfortable because i had never experienced anything like it before... So, in my usual stubborn way, I went straight to the administration to complain and i explained that I needed a conducive environment where I could actually learn.
The administrator listened to me, but instead of simply moving me to another class, I was transferred to a completely different departme and somehow, that small decision changed the direction of my life.
I spent about two weeks there and I realized that i had lost interest in becoming a lawyer because i had fallen in love with Geography and Computer Science but the funny thing was that I became very good at both and Eventually I became one of the best students in the class and that remained the case until I graduated.
After my final exams, my family decided that I should travel abroad for my studies and because of my growing interest in Geography and computers, I was given the opportunity to study Aviation Management.
I was excited about the future but life had another plan because during the preparations for my trip, I lost my father...
At that point everything changed.... the plans we had made had to be reconsidered, especially because the cost of the course was too much..
After some time, I decided to pursue Computer Science instead and that decision eventually opened doors I could never have imagined when I was sitting in a courtroom as a child.
After graduating, I also went on to get an associate degree in Business Administration and Today I find myself working in areas I never imagined.
I am a business developer, commodities trader and web developer and honestly? I love what I do...
The career path I am on today was not the one I planned as a child... In fact, almost every major turn along the way happened because of circumstances I could not control... a classroom, a change of department, a new interest, a family decision, and eventually the loss of my father.
At the time, some of those changes felt like setbacks but today, I see some of them differently.
I didn't become the lawyer I thought I would become but I became someone I am genuinely proud of and honestly, I think that is a pretty good ending to a dream that never happened.
