A HOBBY I ADMIRE - LOH#283

It is fascinating to observe how individuals get a hobby which they enjoy.
The peace that it gives
Time slows down, as if it were a Movie.

Photography is one of the hobbies that I have always liked.

The one where people intentionally go out and have a destination to find the right moments, the best light, the angle, the details that most of us have never noticed.

I have seen how photographers can use a mundane object and make it a powerful one.

Evening time in a shabby street.
An infant child laughing.
A rainy afternoon with reflections on the road.
Their eyes make us see stuff that we normally reject significant.

The best thing is that photography helps you to slow down and observe life. In the world where all people are so busy to do this and that, the photographers seem to be able to stop and even look at the surrounding world.

I sometimes fantasize about picking up a camera and going about my city and simply film life the way it is. No pressure.
Just me and the beautiful scenery.

But the real reason as to why I have not taken photography as a leisure activity is simple.

Time.

The majority of my activities demand much attention and concentration. There is no guarantee that free time will always come as often as we wish among work, life ambitions and duties, among all other things that adult life presents to us. And one of such hobbies is worth time, and photography is one of them. You can’t rush it. Patience, exploration, and practice normally produce the best photos.

The other reason is the fact that photography is not just about possession of a camera. The individuals who are really good at it take time to learn and to know how to use lighting, composition, editing, and even to tell stories using pictures. It is an art that one has to work hard to achieve.

At times I consider beginning with something simple and basic, perhaps a phone camera. But there is another side of me that says, if i should do it, I would like to do it well. And that attitude may become the source of me constantly delaying it.

It is also simply the fact that sometimes the hobbies require space in the head. Even when you are technically in time, but your mind is elsewhere, you still can run out of time.

However for now, photography is among those hobbies that I am quietly watching and admiring.

I am made to remember how powerful creativity can be whenever I view a powerful photo that elicits emotion, movement or a moment that would have otherwise been gone...
One picture can be a story that cannot be described with words.

Perhaps someday I will have the courage to be serious about it.

Life is ironic in the sense that it introduces changes of priorities and most of the time things we postpone now, end up becoming our stabilizers tomorrow.

So until such a time when i am able to practise photography fully and enjoy it, i would just admire from a distance.

Once upon a time photography was a expensive hobby as required heavy gears but now as everybody have a camera in hand and showing their photo skils.

Haha I smiled when you said you'd want to do it well if you should start with your phone, I would encourage you to go for it and see how it goes. Maybe being too busy with too much need some check-out.
