Ladies Of Hive Community Contest 75 || My thoughts On House Husband

Hello Friends šŸ„°šŸ¤—

Welcome to my entry post to this week's LOH contest, in which we are to answer the question below.

What are your thoughts of a "house husband?"
Would you be okay with a relationship where roles were reversed?

Since when we were born, our culture and society will make us think and act in certain ways. And sometimes it is hard to go against such a way of doing things.

But a lot of you will agree with me that life is all about changing, evolving, and doing things in a better way for the development of our being.

If I was asked this question when I was 10 years old girl, I will certainly tell you that, a boy or a man has no business taking care of the House, it is for them to make provision for the family while we women look after the house. Because this is our culture in Nigeria and in Africa at large.

When I was a little girl
When I was growing up as a little girl, my parents will tell me that it is my job to fetch the water, wash the plates, sweeping of the house, and cook, together with my mom. Our men were even forbidden to touch the broom lol. Mind you, my dad will make sure I learn how to clear the farm, go to school and how to fend for myself. In his words "he can never allow me to spoil by not learning how to do all those work.If only he realize how important taking care of the house was to my brother's future as well.

And my mom was very okay with that, in fact, she never for one day complained. Mind you, she has her own farm too, where she do sell her farm product, raised money to support our family needs. So you see, the idea of men providing all the family needs was never in practice.

No matter how tired she was, after working on her farm she will still do all the house chores together with me while the men just wait till everything will be ready.

They will say it is our culture for women to do the house chore alone. But as I grew older and started going to college with my brothers, I had to let them know such a thing can no longer continue not in our family, and oh those ones are my younger brother so I still have authority over them. I dare not say that to my elder brother.

At first, they hated me for that but with time they realized it is for their benefit and everyone around them. I enlighten them on how to cook, clean the house and take care of their mess in the house.

My recent experience
When I just met my husband, he was working and staying alone in his apartment, cooking was his big problem, he always buy food from outside before he can eat even when he got everything in the kitchen, simply because he got used to his mom and sister doing every house chores for him, he got used to hearing " it is a woman place to cook and take care of the house"

I had to help him to re-learn such idea, he start learning how to cook from the simple meals, and to more complex ones. And today gradually he sees things differently, he helps with house chores whenever he is available at home and I on the other hand work hard and contributes to our home expenses, and everything is balanced.

Just imagine in this current economy, where inflation is bitting harder every day, leaving men alone to provide for the family won't be funny to a large percentage of families, and if I'm working my ass off to support my family financially I don't see why my husband should not help out in taking care of our house.

There is this joy and fulfilment in knowing that we get each other's back in all rounds.

What I will do in future
Lastly; when and if I'm ever bless with a son, I will make sure he knows how to take care of the house and not just see it as a women's place.

"We all as a mother have a role to play on how our male children see some of this stuff in the future, most especially this part of the world I come from".

I will like to invite my lovely friend @ozohu to share her thoughts with us on this topic, which can be found here

Yes, men should do house chores too.
It does not take away from them.
Thanks for sharing, @funshee.
