Growing up, I had only one big dream. To become one thing; it's something that came to me naturally, a hero working from the front line and saving the lives of others. A medical doctor.
During my senior secondary school year, I chose to be in the science class, and I was so good in my science subjects, mostly biology and chemistry, to the extent that I was nicknamed Miss Organic Chemistry due to my love and dedication towards the subjects. I was like a wildfire π₯ ready to burn down every fiber in me to excel at my dream course.
Back then, I could explain to you in detail how our body system works, the function of various bones, the brain, the reproductary system and the digestive system. I bet even today I can still tackle these topics to a large extent. By the time I was in SS2 class, I had become so great in my biology and chemistry that most of my classmates looked up to me, and I was also the talk of the staffroom for how dedicated I was towards my science subjects.
I never stopped telling anyone that asked or cared to know my aspirations for the future that I wanted to become a medical doctor, even though I knew such a profession would be difficult for my parents to fund.
After my secondary school education, I was fortunate enough to get my first-ever job at a photography studio in order to save some money to assist my parents in my higher education funding. I worked for one year and saved a reasonable amount of money. The following year when I started seeking admissions, I fell terribly sick, and a large part of my savings and my parents' money went into treatment just to make sure I was alright.
To cut a long story short, I later settled for a less expensive course at a polytechnic, where I applied for science laboratory technology, but I was offered statistics to study. The fund was a big part of my problem back then; if not, I could have still tried to pursue my dream course in another school. I had to settle and take what I got. Even though I did great and came out with an excellent result, I still wished to study my dream course.
A few weeks ago I was still discussing with my husband how badly I wanted to be a medical doctor. I remember him telling me it's not too late, that I can still pursue it if I wanted to, and I think I might still consider it sometime in the near future when my boy is a bit more mature and won't be needing his mama like he does now.
The science of the human body fascinates me a lot. I love to learn more about how our body systems work and how to treat our bodies and keep them away from disease. Aside from this, qualified medical doctors are still in scarcity in my country. What could be a better way to serve my country than being in a hospital and helping patients treat their ailments?
Another thing I love about being a doctor is that I would be able to understand more about my body system, know more about my health, and be in a better position to offer medical assistance to everyone close to me.
Then talk about the prestige and respect that come with the profession; also, it's a challenging job, which means I will continue to learn and grow in the field.
If God now says it's time and a scholarship offer to study any course of my choice lands on my lap, who am I to say no? Heheh. I would be very happy to grab the offer and actualize my childhood dream of becoming a medical doctor.

Growing up I also wanted to be a gynaecologist, I wrote jamb four times but I still wasn't given my preferred course so I settled for what the school gave me.
Wow, writing Jamb four times, that was a lot of years of waiting. I wish that one could just get the course they want if they merit it, without having to wait so many years looking for admission.
Your story is similar to my older sistersβ
She already has a degree & a nice job but still very passionate about going back to study medicine, thatβs been her dream from day one.
I hope your dream comes to pass in due timeβ¨
Aww, π₯° I hope your sister's dream comes true.

Hahaha π€£ you are right, I'm still very passionate about this one, and I hope someday I actually it.
