Spices make life and food interesting! If a spice could describe you and your personality, what would that spice be and why?

Spices make life and food interesting. No wonder the saying “variety is the spice of life”. If it were only one spice that we cook with, it would be unattractive and uninteresting to venture into cooking.
Spices also have their unique taste and way of adding value and aroma to each dish we prepare, just as human beings add value and make an impact on the environment. Spices have attributes, meanings and symbols. Some symbolise strength, health and medicine, while others symbolise patience, resilience, versatility and spark. Therefore, if a spice could describe me and my personality, my spice would be Thyme.
Thyme represents patience and gentility. When used for cooking, it quietly resonates, and its aroma gradually fills the environment. For example, when used to cook meat or stew, the aroma is not shouting; it quietly resonates as the food boils, indicating patience and resilience. These symbols align with my personality. I do not rush things; I patiently follow due process and apply resilience and a go-getter attitude rather than giving up quickly.
Secondly, thyme is versatile and can be used in international or local food cuisines, as well as by vendors roasting chickens, pork, and an African dish called Boli. In these dishes, Thyme stands out among other ingredients added, providing a great mix of aroma. In the same way, I easily find a way to blend in with the environment I find myself.

Thirdly, Thyme is used as a medicinal herb to heal and provide pain relief. It also provides a scintillating aroma and spark when taken as a herbal drink. This feature aligns with my ability to provide encouragement and help in my little way in any environment I find myself. I also like jiving with people across boundaries without any form of discrimination. Spices do not observe boundaries, so they could be used separately or as a mixture, globally, locally and anywhere they are needed.
Additionally, as a Thyme and spice, I do not segregate; I practice diversity and inclusion and therefore could find myself within the midst of a mixed multitude without being scared. Rather, I will gradually and consistently build my pathway of mixing with the environment, adding value and encouragement.
Finally, if a spice could describe me, I would say that, like Thyme, I‘ll quietly provide strength in times of despair, a herb to restore health, a scintillating aroma for diverse dishes, and a spark in dull moments. Just as the world would be a dull place if human beings were all the same, but because varieties are the spice of life, I chose thyme to add those aromas and values that will make dishes worth making and life interesting.
