Birthdays are not.longer a thing of Celebration - LOH #293

Hi beautiful ladies of hive, it's Abeegail again, I love this week prompt, because it's a very touching subject to me
As a kid I have always loved celebrating my birthday. My parents always make me feel special on that day, added to the fact that my birthday is close to the festive period, and I specifically like this because everyone is already in high spirits because of the festivities and that just spills into my birthday. Ever since I was little my parents go out of their way to make my day special.

UNTIL!!

I was eleven, I told my mom that I don't want a celebration because in the neighborhood where I grew up, kids my age threw their party themselves, invited their friends and also have adult beverages and do cool things. Most of the times I was not invited and even if I was, I wouldn't go because my parents would never let me be in that scene. So I told my mom to stop putting up a celebration because I thought it was not "cool" the way my mom did it. My parents still celebrated me; pray for me, get me new clothes, take me out and get me new stuff, but no big celebrations like that.

Fast forward to when I was fourteen, I stopped celebrating my birthday at all, that year we were tight on cash so, I didn't get anything. Funny thing is, I propose the idea. When I told my mom that I didn't want to celebrate my birthday, I saw her breath a sigh of relief instead of asking me why, she probably thought how she would explain to me how money was tight, but it's fine because I understood clearly what was going on. This year I was still prayed for, but no new clothes or anything, not was different from a regular day, I didn't feel any older and I didn't feel like I was being celebrated but it was fine because I understood.

From then on, I don't like celebrating my birthdays anymore, on my birthdays I feel like I was not different from the day before my birthday. I took my birthday casually and I didn't understand why people did heavy celebrations, for just one day, I felt that it was not that special for that sort of celebration. After we passed through the tight times, my parents still acknowledge my birthday unlike that particular year but I already lost interest in my birthdays entirely.

But this year I promise myself that I'll do something for my birthday if I have the means, I'll spoil myself, treat myself, dress up to the nines because in actual fact it is just only one day, one day for me to feel special, to feel grateful for living for another year. I want to get my birthday pictures professionally taken, get cake, because it has been a while since I have eaten cake on my birthday, get a new phone to possibly. Now I understand that birthdays are a thing of celebration whether or not you have the funds to do so.

It's Still Abeegail ✨💗

At first Celebrating birthdays were fun but it seems to become less important as time goes on. It's cool to have a surprise one every odd time, maybe when we get to 40 or one of those decade years among friends. My sons 'outgrew' their birthdays. So, I'm waiting for my elder son to pass his Driver's exam before celebrating that rite of passage.
Thanks for sharing @abeegail 🎂
