A Nostalgic Look At Two Memorable K-Pop Series

I think the prompt for this week is more like a free one, take it any direction you want so long it's something to show the love for the Koreans. My mind went back to many years ago when I first started to see Korean series and I thought, "Why not I share a review of two series that brings in the nostalgic feeling for me, series about kpop?"

I've seen countless music genre focused kdrama, so many and I've realized over and over how much I appreciate the genre over others. I once had to see an old release when I heard it's about music, and I didn't regret seeing it. It was actually amazing to see a series so old that didn't fall short in quality and the music features were nice.

So to focus on the particular prompt "K-Content, sharing interesting scenes or memorable backgrounds from K-Drama I've watched", I'm choosing to share nostalgic scenes I still remember from two kpop based kdrama that have lived rent free in my head for so long. These two series were my firsts in the particular genre.

The Ultimate Audition (2012)

The title wasn't so alluring when my siblings and I went into the movie shop to buy the CD of this series, but we went for it because it had just two seasons. We wanted something we won't have to spend too many nights to finish, lol. I remember how the excitement started to grow right from the first episode learning about the characters.

"The Ultimate Audition" is about the life of kpop groups and their extreme survival way of living as idols, or to be idols. This story focuses on the life of a tomboy, Ji Seung Yeon who dresses up as a boy to join a boy band, M2 junior. It hit me now that it may not have been a thing long before that girls can be idols as this series kinda reveals so.

I would say my siblings and I spent so much time together learning the songs from this series, even when I hear the songs now, I remember how to sing them. From one audition to another, we were made to fan over the M2 junior while loving the senior idol group. I'd say it was my first to see fans behavior when they see their favourite idol.

You Are Beautiful (2009)

I tried to see this series some months back and I was surprised I still find it enjoyable to watch from start to finish, although I didn't, it got too predictable. But I still listen to the songs till now. It had a longer season but I remember not getting enough of the chemistry between characters, the many twists and the lovely stage performances.

"You Are Beautiful" is also about a kpop group but this time, a soon to be nun disguises as her twin brother to save his role as a kpop member. Having to act out as a guy when she's actually supposed to stay far away from guys and be the nun she had always wanted to be, was unique to see. It was from one funny moment to another.

I still remember how she views the guys in the band as angels to save herself from falling in love with one of them, that didn't work though because viewers were so shipping for them to fall in love lol. I totally love "Park Shin-ye" voice and her role as the nun in this series. It was my first time seeing her series and it got me hooked.

Both series are quite old and may have been forgotten but not for me, they were my best back then and I'm glad I thought of them today. There are more music genre kdrama that I can't forget like "Heartstrings", "Dream High", "Twinkling Watermelon", "Lovely Runner", and "Castaway Diva". So tell me, which of them have you seen?
