My First Experience Trying Korean Food and What It Taught Me

I use to watch eating Korean food in the movies, so everything about it felt new to me. This week, I decided to try something different instead of my usual country meals. It wasn’t very simple no big deal, just a simple decision to step out of what I’m used to.

The first thing I noticed was how Korean dining is not just about eating alone quietly it about love. There is this idea of sharing. Even when I was trying it in a small setting, I could feel that the food is meant to be enjoyed together perfectly with loved ones. Different dishes placed side by side, everyone picking a little from each. It felt less like “my food” and more like “our food.”

I remember my lovely sister used to say, “Food tastes better when it is shared.” which is why we loved eating together. At that time, I thought she just meant family meals. But this experience made me understand it in a different way.

I tried a simple Korean dish, nothing too complicated. At first, the taste felt unusual, new taste. Not too bad, just different from what I’m used to. I had to slow down and really pay attention to the flavors. After a few bites, I started to enjoy it more. It made me realize that sometimes, new things need patience before you appreciate them.

What stood out to me was the balance. The food was not just about being sweet or spicy, it had a mix. It reminded me of life in a small way. Not everything has to be one thing. Different parts can come together and still feel complete.

I also noticed how the experience made me slow down. Instead of rushing through the meal, I was more aware. Looking at the food, tasting it properly, thinking about it. That doesn’t always happen in everyday eating.

Growing up, my parents always encouraged trying new things, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. My father would say, “If you stay only with what you know, you won’t grow much.” That came back to my mind during this experience.

Trying Korean food this week was not just about eating something new. It was about learning, it feels good and great to be open, to be patient, and to enjoy simple shared moments.

I’m still not used to everything, and that’s okay. But I think I will try again. Because sometimes, small experiences like this can teach more than we expect.

So exactly which Korean dish did you try? Did you make it yourself or eat it in a restaurant? What did you think of the ingredients?
