I believe that there are certain stories that the governments do not want to be known to ordinary people. And when I read the theory of the Lost Cosmo-nauts I had a very unpleasant sensation that sat long in my chest. It does not appear as a conspiracy theory to me. I think it is the story of human beings who might have sacrificed their lives and lived to do something great and it was just erased out of history as though they never existed.
The two nations were in need to show that they were superior and more superior than each other. In 1961, the Soviets had already stunned the world by launching the first satellite then the first human being Yuri Gagarin into space. However, there is a theory that there were other cosmonauts that had been launched into space before Gagarin and they had not returned. And Soviet government following this theory just erased them out of all records.
What made the theory more serious was due to two Italian brothers by the name Achille and Giovanni Judica-Cordiglia. They were amateur radio operators and were intercepting radio signals in space at that time and had constructed their own listening station in Turin. They testified that they have intercepted some disturbing transmissions. Among these recordings they said they had obtained were those of a heart beat of a human being which had died away. The other was supposedly the voice of a woman speaking the Russian language and growing more and more agitated as though she was of great distress. They thought these were messages of lost Soviet cosmonauts who had lost their hope of being rescued as they were dying alone in space.
I have heard some of this recordings and I would be honest to say that it influenced me in a manner I did not anticipate. I cannot say exactly whether they are real and not. Yet the fact that a living human being was drifting in the emptiness of the universe, making a distress signal which nobody was coming to save is something that I cannot easily get rid of. I suppose the majority of the folks would feel the same had they actually given the thought a little time.

The Soviet government never gave a nod. They insisted that Yuri Gagarin was the first human to travel to space and that all their missions to space were explained. These claims were examined by numerous researchers and historians over the years and the majority of them came to the conclusion that there is insufficient evidence which could support the fact that the cosmonauts were being lost and concealed. When the Soviet Union fell a lot of classified documents were declassified and no concrete evidence to show missing cosmonauts was discovered within these documents.
I believe that the lack of evidence is not necessarily identical to the evidence of the absence. Governments have concealed inconvenient facts in the past and they will do the same. The Soviets were also known to Photoshop individuals out of the pictures and rewrite history to their liking. Had they been able to do that then concealing the deaths of a few cosmonauts would not have been so hard on their part.
The politics and the space race do not have the same effect on me about this story. It is the human part of it. In the event that a single individual was launched into space with the knowledge of the dangers and then he/she lost their life and was wiped out of history, he/she deserved an improvement. They had the right to be remembered. Their sacrifice should have been recognized.

To tell the truth I do not know whether or not the Lost Cosmonauts existed. But I can tell that the thought of dying in the dark and the world forgetting you was one of the most lonely I ever had.
