Mars Missions and Space Exploration

Humans are ambitious and due to their ambition they are regarded as the most intelligent species on earth but on the contrary they are the most unsatisfied creatures on the earth as well. You may also agree with it. Due to the fact of the intelligence the one human being is supposed to be very good in appreciating what the Earth would offer but, in real life, we can observe the con side of the situation. I believe I find humans to be no less obsessed with leaving their home planet. I am telling you that I have reasons. I am saying so because it is the human beings who can possess the complete beautiful planet with resources and after possessing everything they want to visit dead planet like Mars. To understand this situation better, I will tell about the space exploration.

Space exploration was not so developed in the earlier times and when it comes to visiting Mars, scientists used to dream about it even though they could not think twice provided they had the capacity to visualize the possibilities. They never rejected the idea on the basis of primitive technology or insufficient funding. It was a common opinion that visiting Mars when opportunity available is one thing of supreme accomplishment to the human race. The space missions, all of them heroic and necessary as they were in the eyes of every one, were really very costly and hazardous and that was what reminded me how determined human beings could be. People did not realize that they had been wasting billions of money on Mars yet the earth had plenty of issues that remained unresolved.

With the beginning of time, the Mars missions became more realistic and as a matter of course the space agencies have the sophisticated technology to attempt the voyage. The competition among several countries and private companies regarding Mars landing is possible to observe within the past few years. SpaceX is in the frontline with obsessive plans of Elon Musk, NASA did not abandon their research despite the budget cuts threatening the programs severally. China and India were not left behind and they actually believed that owning Mars mission when it became cheap enough was one form of national pride. Every Mars rover and Mars orbiters was returning so much fascinating data in the eyes of the space enthusiasts, but they were actually demonstrating how hostile and dead that planet is and that reminded me how ironical the situation became. Scientists failed to comprehend that Mars lacks atmosphere, water, high radiation yet they desire humans to reside in the planet.

Those were the space agencies who had been heavily funded on different Mars missions and only to fail to address the problems in the earth before they did anything they faced accusing eyes of many and it was anticipated by the realistic thinkers in those times. However, the Mars fascination provided people with a life lesson and this was that human beings can easily get distracted by glittering new ambitions unless they set priorities straight first. They all understood that they were discussing Mars colonies all the time and they had Earth on their hands. They were not thankful to have breathable air and water they dared to dream of life on cramped locations on dead planet. I suppose they made some sort of an emergency backup of Earth that would last indefinitely. In such a way, one can argue that human beings utilized space exploration as an escapist tool, as well as as an ambition project, which they did not hesitate to overlook climate change, poverty, and wars. They were mistaken in priorities indeed.

Mars failures have never been a thing in the history of humanity. Having already encountered disasters in a number of occasions such as explosions and lost rovers, engineers have concluded that the journey to Mars is rather unsafe and with the existing technology they cannot assure safe human landing at the moment. In addition, the vast majority of the billionaires who finance the individual missions never have the risk properly considered and are willing to make daring promises concerning timeframes. Thus, the practical scientists concluded that there was no reason to hurry human missions and say no when somebody demands unrealistic launch dates. During the initial period it was indeed hard to make space agencies resist the pressure but as time went it had to resist and they could provide numerous technical reasons. They may also be hard at times now when investors demand too quality results. I believe that the industry abandoned the mentality of making impossible promises without much effort. They do not send humans unless the technology is totally dependable. And in case of any overconfident billionaires they just say directly no since scientists really do not care what they think of conservative approach these days. The unsuccessful missions did not spare the budgets and equipment and prudent action with human lives is something that, in fact, makes sense. And so, space agencies will be enabled to spare the astronauts of being killed or stranded on Mars. They have to prioritize safety and do so will not be a bad thing in my opinion.

Yet there is one thing, I have to say. In spite of all the criticisms, the Mars missions did not want to leave without something impressive. The technology created in space exploration was useful to the earth as well. Space research led to the water purification systems, the solar panels, medical machinery, and numerous other inventions. Perhaps the Mars obsession had not been such a fruitless thing. Perhaps, without impossible dreams that humans have, they would not be able to drive themselves. It is possible that going to Mars is not about escaping Earth, but demonstrating to the world what mankind can do when united in their pursuit of challenging objectives.

Exploration of space has not ended and Mars is not waiting to be explored.
