Marriage of Convenience - Purple Hearts Movie Review

Good day cine tv friends and to all movie lovers on hive. I come your way with my first post in the community which hopefully opens the door to a lot more posts I will make in cine tv. I want to talk about a movie I watched approximately 2 years ago which really caught my eye.

The Plot.

The movie I want to share is Purple Hearts. Apologies for any spoilers. The movie starts with an artiste writing some lyrics and a military base where some soldiers are training. The artiste is then seen performing in the bar with her band and we soon see that she works in the same bar with the band and had just been given some time by her boss to perform.

She returns to her bartender duties and some military guys walk in. She recognizes the youngest who is a close friend of hers and decides to serve the guy and his friends. She then gets into a heated debate with one of the friends and so for both of them, a bad first impression is left.

We soon realize that she is a diabetic patient and can’t afford her medications. We also see that the guy she had the argument with has problems with his previous drug dealer and has to come up with money to pay him.

Fast forward, they come up with a plan to enjoy military spouse benefits. In this way, the lady is given free medical care and is also paid some money while the guy is on deployment. They share the money and the guy uses his part to start paying off his previous dealer. This plan of course can only happen when they agree to marry.

To fool the military, they marry and become closer during his deployment and she even sings some of her unreleased song to the guy and his military buddies. Unfortunately, the guy is involved in an explosion and is injured. He then returns home and they have to continue the charade but this time with close eyes from the guy’s family.

As the guy goes through physical therapy, they grow closer till something happens and the lady is really vexed with him and kicks him out. Their charade is exposed but the guy takes all the blame and is to be imprisoned for sometime. The lady while performing at a big stage realizes she feels something for him and meets him before he is taken away and they reconcile.

They then live happily ever after when he is released.

This is just a summary of the movie without hopefully giving away too many spoilers.

First of all I really liked the movie. I enjoy musicals and fortunately, this was no different. I liked the songs and even find myself singing some of them sometimes.

I like how they allowed the couple to slowly fall in love even though they rushed into the marriage of convenience. The storyline for me was good and of course the acting was good.

Overall, I give this movie, a 9/10 rating. I think the people that haven’t watched it yet should give it a try.
