Talk about one of the most recent tense and thought-provoking movies I've watched in recent times. Black and Blue is definitely among the top 5 that leave me breathless in anticipation of how the next scene would unfold. This is a thriller that introduced us viewers to some of the dark underbelly of police corruption and questionable moral accountability. It's a movie based on the ordeals of Alicia West, a rookie cop who got tangled in one of the unruly acts of her police colleague who murdered someone in cold blood, that led to her running to save her life and the body camera on her chest that captures the entire murder.
So it all began when Alicia was asked to cover up for her partner who had a date with his partner. When she agreed to cover up for him, it meant she had to go out on patrol with someone else, and during their patrol, the person she went out with stepped out and instructed her not to leave the car. But her police instinct kicked in when she heard multiple gunshots. Upon getting to where the gunshots happened in an abandoned building, she saw 3 of her police colleagues talking to a gang member and ultimately killing him to cover the track of some of their evil deeds.
Terry Malone was the officer who pulled the trigger, and after that was when they realized Alicia West saw everything and captured it on her body cam, so one of the other two police officers shot at her multiple times, although he was hit. She managed to escape the scene, and that led to her running and trying to expose the truth. I believe this was driven by her desire to save herself as well as make sure justice is served.
She even called her partner to come save her and take her to the police station when other officers were searching for her in the neighborhood, but apparently her partner Kevin Wallace was also kind of into the whole unruly dark act of these police officers, and if not for her swift reaction, she would have fallen into their hands. In the end, one way or another, she managed to escape the whole drama that unfolded later from how she was being chased by gang members who thought she was the one who killed their colleagues because they were lied to that she did by Officer Malone.
She later took refuge with Milo, who ended up getting tangled in the whole situation, including getting kidnapped and beaten by the gang members, although they later got to know the truth when they saw the contents of the body cam, and Milo had to pretend to be a police officer, drive to the police station to upload the body camera content to the police system for the police chief to see, before the truth was made known and Officer Terry Malone got apprehended alongside his other corrupt officers, although that didn't ensure orderliness of the police, but it was a start in the right direction.
I'll rate this movie 4/5 for its compelling storyline.
