Kidneys, Betrayal, and Fear: The Movie That Caught Me Off Guard

Things were boring today to the extent that I decided to just pick a random nollywood movie on youtube just to clear that boredom of the day without knowing I picked a tragedy movie. Somehow, I'm now a fan of this particular Nollywood actor Micheal Dappa especially for his romance roles in movies and his acting skills, just don't know if it's just for the moment because I do switch actors based on their movies and performances. This particular movie titled Away from home felt a little odd from the beginning because instead of his normal rich or average look, he acted as a poor mechanic guy. Literally, he had a beautiful wife, a child, a younger brother and also a sick father and as the breadwinner of the family, he owned only a mechanic shop which was doing well until a client's car was stolen from the shop and he was forced to pay even when he didn't have the money.

That unfortunate incident wrecked him, no sales and the little he makes went straight into paying the debt and he was able to pay 3m out of 8m with more pressure coming in daily, but he had something that actually spoilt his character which was ego, his wife begged him to allow her work so she can support him in his present situation but he always declined, his younger brother who wasn't in school ran away from their town. He asked him to look after their father, just to visit him and at least find something to do and also make money but he refused, yet he is wallowing in his secret pain and debt all over until one day. he got fed up and almost lost his mind. He had 2 friends at his workshop who were nice to him (so I thought), weren't really his friend. The one he was looking up to for help, came with his own problems, told him he lost houses and properties so he can't ask him for help and then the second friend came to tell him how one of his friend sold a kidney for 15million and he is now living fine.

With his whole situation even though he rejected the offer at first, he came back to ask for the address so he can sell one of his kidneys, pay off his debt, sent his brother back to school and start a new life with the rest of the money but unknowing to him, his younger brother who was listening to the whole conversation, also went to meet his so call friend for the address which he also received. He was blindfolded to the illegal location and after filling the form, he started asking questions especially about how he will receive the money and they only gave him few answers, then he saw his younger brother among those that came to sell their kidneys, he was devastated and no matter how he begged him to give up and go back home, the younger brother was adamant. Everything was off, things weren't going right and they were locked up as if they were kidnapped, the d-day came and he begged to go first instead of his brother which they reluctantly allowed, then he ask again if they have transfer the money to his wife at home but they told him they forgot and he rejected to donate his kidney and they made him realise this is a illegal and a scam, he either donate or they would force him too, after attempting to run away and was grabbed, he screamed at the top of his voice while shouting "it is a scam" so his brother can run away.

But he was forcefully injected with anesthesia but before sleeping off, he saw the nurses were actually is two friends at his workshop who actually advised him to sell his kidney. Did his brother escaped or his organ got harvested too, you can check out the movie to know what happened at the end

That ending scene where he screamed “it is a scam” before being injected shows how desperate he was to protect his brother even in the face of betrayal. You definitely made the movie sound tragic.
