Movie Review: Carry-On — An Action Thriller Movie

Carry-On (2024) is an action thriller movie, directed by Jaume Collet Serra. The movie is filled with suspense, drama, critical thinking and a captivating storyline that makes it a worthy watch.

The movie is about a man, Ethan Kopek, played by Taron Egerton, a young TSA agent, who finds himself in a life-changing dilemma when he's blackmailed into allowing a dangerous package onto a flight on Christmas Eve, with a threat on his girlfriend if he doesn't do what he was told to do while on a compulsory call he wasn't allowed to disconnect from. The movie delivers an unforgettable viewing experience with a blend of action-packed sequences and emotional depth.

As someone who loves and enjoys action movies, Carry-On caught my attention when I accidentally stumbled on the trailer. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the first scene intrigued me to give it a try. To my excitement, the movie exceeded my expectations, I didn't imagine it would be worth it, offering the 'sit-tight' tension and an emotional connection that kept me glued to the end. I was reminded of why I love the action-thriller genre, one with dynamic storytelling and high stakes with some suspense, leaving you to guess at every turn.

I appreciate the performances of the characters; they did well with a very outstanding effort, with Taron Egerton playing as Ethan, showing vulnerability and resilience in equal measure. I wouldn't take the role of Sofia Carson, played by Nora for granted, where she acted her role beautifully, adding emotional weight to each scene. She's Ethan's pregnant girlfriend who also works in the same airport but in a different section. Her character and support for Ethan showed the stakes of his decisions.

Then Jason Bateman, portrayed as the mysterious traveller who brought a chilling unpredictability to the story, while Danielle Deadwyler, the LAPD detective, played as Elena Cole; I love her acting, too, where she added a layer of her law enforcement actions, so intriguing. The characters created a compelling narrative which I so much enjoyed.

What stood out the most for me was how the movie was balanced with some element of thrills, adding a series of underlying morals and ethics. I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but Carry-On is a movie that explores themes of integrity, making quick decisions under pressure and portraying the ripple effects of our choices. This reminds me that even when we are navigating some tough circumstances, our values and courage define us.

Not only did this movie come with a twist of adrenaline pumps and explosive actions, but it also carried an emotional depth, making it a movie worth giving time to watch and enjoy with lots of actions packed in it.
