"Still 17" Review: A Delightful Coming-of-Age Story
I'm more hyped about movie genre like this, "Coming-of-Age" with beautiful storylines to keep you hooked till the end. I've noticed how relatable most of them can be, from all the ones I've seen. This series is no exception and I almost hit myself for taking too long to see it after others.
I don't know how I didn't notice the female lead until a few days after I added it to my watch list, my reason for adding this series was mainly because it was suggested to me after I finished seeing "Doona" and I fell in love with the new face (the male character), he starred on this one too.
"Still 17" is a 32 episode Korean series released in the year 2018 featuring Yang Se-jong, Yang Se-jong as lead characters. Ahn Hyo-seop and Lee Do-hyun as supporting characters. Each one of them have played main roles in other series since after this one, so I am familiar with them.
"Still 17" is about a 17 year old violin player who is almost set to go study music abroad, gets on a bus and was involved in an accident. She wakes up from coma 13 years later, she became a 30 year old lady who thinks and acts like 17. She meets a guy who got traumatised 13 years ago.
A big kudos to Shin Hye-sun for her acting skills, I still can't understand how she went from this role to the role she played in "Mr Queen". It's how she nails her roles like it's no biggie, especially in this storyline that she had to act like a little girl that any little girl that age can relate with her too.
And then, the male lead went from being a chronic introverted nerd to being very jovial and full of life when he meets the girl of his past but didn't recognize her until after a while. I like his connection with his nephew (Ahn Hyo-seop) and his chemistry with the female lead in romance.
I also like the character of "Jennifer", the house help who speaks, walks and acts like a human robot until her story was revealed. The little twists from the accident scene till they all had to fight though their trauma was a good series of events to see. The comedy in it was so good too.
I don't want to say much about this but I must mention it, how a girl stays in coma for 13 years but walks around just fine with no health complication is a bit too fictional to me. I'm not sure how it works in the real world though and after all, she underwent some therapy halfway.
I'm also surprised this Coming-of-Age drama doesn't have a particular love triangle I was expecting to see but was still so good. The series introduces me to a new kind of sport, or maybe it's not a sport but it's kinda like it (boat racing) and it added a lot more excitement to the story.
"Still 17" is a good one if you want to see a story about youthful living and good comedy to go with. Overcoming traumas, adjusting to life's challenges, building friendship, family bonding and most of all, falling in love in the midst of all this. Every character played their roles so well.
Will such a storyline have a happy ending? How was the 17 at heart able to cope with being 30? What was the real cause of the accident that stopped many lives, both the living (by being traumatised by the accident) and the dead (losing their lives), find out in the story. 8/10.
Anything that has to do with Shin Hye-sun, count me in. She is so good at what she does. I haven't watched this movie, neither have I heard of it. There a K-drama titled 17 Again right? I think that one's more popular. Nice review you have here. I'm off to add this to my watchlist.
Maybe 17 again is different or you're referring to 18 Again, I saw it and it's a good one too.

32 episode means a lot but the story sounds interesting and I will watch it someday in the future as my exam is approaching near. Thanks for sharing.
