I have been watching mostly Nollywood movies for a while now, so I decided to switch things up and watch something different. While scrolling through some movies, I stumbled upon section 8 and then i decided to check out the trailer. The moment I saw the legendary Dolph Lundgren, I knew I had to watch it.
This movie is basically a 2022 action thriller, and it follows the story of a man named Jake Atherton, who had a small but happy family consisting of his wife, Ashton, and their son, Landon.
Jake was formerly in the military , but left to live a quiet life with his family. After leaving, he started working in a small mechanic shop with his uncle. While working there, he had a heated encounter with some gang members who came to extort money from his uncle, and he ended up beating them up. That moment turned his whole life upside down because, shortly after, the gang leader tracked him down and brutally murdered his wife and child.
That was the moment everything changed for Jake. Losing his family made him very furious, and he made it his mission to seek revenge. He went after Fresh, the man responsible for their deaths, and killed him. However, this led to his arrest, and then he was sent to prison.
While in prison, a secret government agency took him from prison and asked him to join their team since he had great combat skills and the right experience. So they offered him a deal—his freedom in exchange for joining their elite team known as Section 8. At first, Jake was hesitant, but then he later accepted the offer and was trained for dangerous missions.
His first major assignment was to assassinate Alejandro Castillo, an arms dealer who was involved in illegal weapon distribution. He successfully carried out the mission and went on to complete another task after that.
But then things took a different turn when he decided he wanted out of the agency. That move made him a liability, and suddenly, the same people who recruited him wanted him dead. Will he survive their wrath, or will Section 8 succeed in eliminating him? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out!
Thoughts and Ratings
I genuinely enjoyed this movie, even though I felt really bad when his wife and son were killed. That part hurt a lot because, after that, he was left completely alone—no wife, no child, and even his parents were dead. It was just painful to watch.
Jake was definitely my favorite character because despite everything he went through, he still had a good heart. Even when he was working with Section 8 and was ordered to assassinate a state senator, he hesitated because the senator mentioned that he had a wife and children. At that moment, you could see that Jake still had his humanity intact. He understood what it felt like to lose family, so he didn’t want to put another family through that pain. That was something I really respected about him.
Another thing I loved about Jake was his deep love for his family. No matter how many missions he went on, his thoughts were always with his wife and child. That just made me like his character even more.
Now, my favorite scene in the entire movie was when he finally killed the gang leader who murdered his family. At that moment, I was just like, Yes! That’s what you deserve! I won’t lie—I even wished he could have killed the gang leader’s entire family too, just so he could feel the same pain Jake felt.
One of the things I found interesting about the movie was that at first, it seemed like a straightforward revenge story, but as i continued watching, there was an unexpected plot twist that caught me off guard and completely changed the way I saw the story. I liked the fact that it wasn’t predictable, and the way Jake handled those discoveries made the movie even more intense and satisfying.
Overall, I think Section 8 was a solid action movie. It didn’t drag unnecessary scenes, and everything played out well. My only small complaint is that I would have loved to see more of Jake’s time in the military before he left. I believe that would have added more depth to his character.
For my rating, I’d give it an 8 out of 10. It was really good, but I’ve definitely seen more better thrilling action movies. However, if you love revenge amd conspiracy stories mixed with intense action, then you should definitely check this out!
