Broken Hallelujah: A Mirror to the broken homes

There is always this special thing about Nigerian movies especially when they storyline is well written that is beyond what we see on the screen. Those movies are just more than storylines, they talk and cut across real life matters, homes, situations, hearts and homes. Broken Hallelujah is not just a screen time movie it provokes reflection as it talks real life matters in married family homes. It penetrated deep into my soul. It murmured reality and actually facts through a ponderous silence and shattered voice.

From the first glance at the movie, as the title, Broken Hallelujah does not feign. It is not all these flashy and over hyped Nollywood story line fantasy. It is genuine, filled with a lot of emotions, raw and authentic. Watching the movie, I can say that it talks about how homes are broken, the smile behind the unseen pain of spouses, waiting on God, expectations, strained faith and heavy heart that hides behind that unreal tired smile. The movie goes deeper that the title and it talks about how a lot of people keep showing up despite the fact that their heart is filled with burdens and unanswered questions, people who are longing for something for a while but kept on praying with a cracked voice.

What made the movie so timeless and powerful after watching is the frustrated married woman whose prayers feels unanswered after waiting to have her baby for a long year and later got blessed with triplets at once. The mother in-law who was unable to uphold her faith by giving her son's wife a pregnancy concussion from the shrine but nothing happened, the husband who almost had sex with another woman-client but overcame and the aged woman who has always been by the wife's side as a guardian angel and symbol of hope every step of her way.

The behaviorism and morality of the movie is layered. It dares to test faith when being faced with a lot of fear and disappointment. What happens when expectations and faith crumbles. When love is no longer enough. When prayers seems not to be answered.

The hallelujah might be broken, but it still rises.

I have a strong feeling that Broken Hallelujah is not just a movie, it's a reality of what a lot of homes are passing through when it comes to bearing a child and the challenges being faced. The movie highly speak volume about resilience even when all hope seems lost.

Broken Hallelujah is not just a movie, it is a mirror. And most of the people who come across the movie can have a little reflection about it.

This is one Hollywood movie I'm seriously considering adding to my watchlist. I just hope the movie is not over hyped though because that is my fear. Nice review @goldenproject
