Vishals' Articulation of Shakespeare

Vishal Bhardwaj is an Indian movie director.
Usually, I am not much familiar with the movie directors except for my favorite ones.
I came to recognize Vishal much more later even though I had watched his movies in earlier times.
Mostly, aside from Vishals' other works, I was enchanted by his works based on Shakespeare novels.
Certainly, as a bookworm, I am a little ken about Shakespeare's works, to be precise some of his popular novels.
I had not realized while I was watching the movie that it was based on the novels of Shakespeare.

The movies are subtle but made with absolute efficacy and marinated in adequate delicacy.

I am talking about his 3 movies-

  • Omkara (based on 'Othello' 1st one to be made)
  • Maqbool (Based on Macbeth')
  • Haider (Based on 'Hamlet')

Well now that you know the plot twist, you must be thinking (if you have read the books) that these became spoilers.
But I would say hold on there!
Just knowing the ending doesn't reduce its appreciation one bit, I promise.

I was mesmerized by the adaptation mechanism of both plot & story adjustment.

To expect such subtle beauty from an Indian director and to that who is not much renowned!
None of these movies are very appreciated in Bollywood as predicted, in terms of how beautifully they were made.

When I first watched "Maqbool" based on "Macbeth", I watched it only because I am a great admirer of " Irfan Khan"
Obviously, I had not realized a thing except it had rung the bell somewhere in my intellect that the theme came off familiar.

But then in that recent time, a hyped about "Haider" went around. And I watched it just for peer pressure! Which later lead to a usual movie discussion where I learned that "Haider" was made based on "Hamlet"

When I pondered, I was truly captivated by the subtle work of the Director who kept the story but changed the plot yet he adjusted the plot with the appropriate storyline!
Thanks to that random conversation, I began to browse for more.
And realized Maqbool was Macbeth!
Also found out that there is another, based on "Othello" named "Omkara"

Indeed, I watched it right away.
Omkara was the first one to be made and it upheld the expectation equally!

And it is so disappointing how these sorts of remarkable works are neglected in Bollywood.

Be it the storyline, character build-up, or screenplay, all the 3 movies were made distinctively and independently yet showing the suggestive imprint of Shakespeare.

I could not choose one to put as a favorite because each of these was flawless in that manner.
Specifically plotting the detailed plot!
And whenever I remember the movies, I wonder how did he even come up with those plot ideas to execute his story.

It not only shows how meticulous and comprehensive Vishal Bhardwaj is in his works but also how he appreciates others' works as well like Shakespeare.

I never watched those movies you highlighted 😐. Also I don’t know about the Vishal Bhardwaj the Indian movie director. Normally i like to watch funny type movies & tamil movies.

Well I say people should enjoy whatever they like.
However, Tamil movies are so worthless that I cannot comprehend why people watch those movies.
Anyway watch these 3, and if you can watch the rest of the movies Irfan Khan as well.

I watch tamil movies just for fun 😃. Like to watch the actions & the comedy. Surely i will try to watch those movies whenever I have time.

I have not seen these movies but generally subversive works in Bollywood get neglected. These are quite well known though, I used to see lots of reviews in Cinemakhor when they were released.

I only saw some hype about "Haider"
Also in cinemkhor, the majority of the members are movie buffs.
I am implying as in-general lime it deserves in the industry as well to the audience.
Also, I didn’t find many focusing the Shakespeare connection and Vishal's appreciation.
Of course, it’s established the true artistic work is always deliberately overlooked in Bollywood.

Who says they are neglected? They are all well known and well loved.

0E-8 BEE

Yes but only to certain people, not comprehensively as a movie becomes famous in-general concepts.

What do you want? Popularity like Beder Meye Joshtna?
