I have had my fair shares of horror over the years but my mom was right. Old is gold. This time, I was seeing a horror movie, she joined me and she didnât even bat an eye. I asked, âhow are you watching this?â With a pillow over my face.
Mom looked at me and said, âthis is the horror you guys watch these days? There is nothing but slashing. Itâs all just blood and tears. Go back to the 80âs. You will see some really terrifying stories.â
Now, I didnât take her advice all the way and rather went back to 2016. The very gruesome story of the Terrifier. I watched all three and for some reason, part one remains the top contender in my very warped mind right now.
The Terrifier is an American slasher horror movie portraying the character, Art the Clown, who doesnât hold back in his savagery towards humankind. From part 1 till 3, I could barely stomach the gruesome methods of his killing. From what I checked, The Terrifier is like a spin off from the original âAll Hallows Eveâ. I canât watch that. Iâm already traumatized.
Anyway, my mom was watching with me and went on to say all this guy was doing was âslashingâ and dealing death in very obscene ways. In her words, there was only the slightest bit of suspense pertaining what would happen and there was really no scare.
âYou see it all before you even get the chance to be scared.â
That wasnât the same story for me. I did think the slashing was pretty cool, especially seeing how realistic they made it. However, mom said that doesnât make up for the lack of storyline. You think sheâs right?
Mom told me to go watch horrors from the 80âs. She went into details of how one of those movies shared on movie night at her boarding school was enough to send many students into shock and was banned. She was one of those students whose blood pressure went up all of a sudden sending her into unconsciousness. So, horror movies for movie night was banned at her school.
I couldnât fathom it. Anyway, mom said the whole thing was nothing but a sham with plenty of blood and savagery.
I think I couldnât understand somethings especially relating part two and three of the Terrifier to the first part. It went from slasher to demonic. Kind of a superhero thingy and well, I found it really cool. Especially the third part that was Christmas themed, which somehow made it appear more sinister than the first two. Not the sixty-baby (my mom) obviously, she thought it was a waste of money and time.
Have you seen The Terrifier? What do you think of it? Was my mom right or does she have too much expectations?

Hope it's as scary as it appears because I am really considering checking it out. Thanks for sharing
Wow, I really enjoyed reading your review....it felt like I was right there with you and your mom on that couch đ I have seen Terrifier (especially the first one), and yeah⌠Art the Clown is next level messed up. Itâs not for the faint of heart definitely not something Iâd show to my mom, but yours sounds like a real OG horror fan. Respect. đ
I totally get where she's coming from though. A lot of older horror flicks, especially from the 80s..leaned heavy on suspense, psychological fear, and building tension. You didnât always see the monster or the killer right away, which made it hit harder. Think The Shining, Poltergeist, or even Hellraiser. Those movies made you feel uneasy without showing everything upfront.
That being said, Terrifier has its own twisted charm. Itâs unapologetically gory and brutal, and I think thatâs the whole pointâit doesnât try to be subtle. Itâs more of a shock-your-system kind of horror than a get-under-your-skin one. Youâre right thoughâthe jump from straight-up slasher to supernatural in parts 2 and 3 kinda threw me too. It felt like they were trying to give Art some kind of mythos, but the shift was wild.
So is your mom right? Kinda. I mean, if youâre looking for classic, atmospheric horror with tight storytelling, the 80s is a treasure trove. But if youâre in it for the over-the-top gore and chaos, Terrifier delivers exactly that. Honestly, I think there's room for both styles in the genre.
Thanks for sharing this.... it was super entertaining. Now I kind of want to go rewatch both Terrifier and The Thing. đ
Hahaha. Thank you for this. Mom would sure love you for taking her side đ
Gotta stay on momâs good side... she knows best đ
