Dear @wongi, I finally got to watch an horror movie from start to finish, thanks to you. Maybe at this pace, I'll be watching The Conjuring next who knows lol.
So this movie, IT FOLLOWS, is a movie I have heard about for quite a while now say since my teen years. It so happens that back then in high school, that's all what my classmates talked about. You know I tried watching it then but I couldn't get it to buy on DVD. I also could not download it until recently that I got a wing of moviebox.
Thanks to moviebox, I downloaded the movie, but I was too scared to watch it. Because the last attempt I made at a horror movie, half way through, I was turning it off because I got unnecessarily agitated and jumpy.
So, after going through the Cinetv spotlight and saw Wongi reviewing an horror novie, I sought a guideline or two from her and she gave me some really helpful tips one of which, she mentioned that its just a movie and as I watched through the frightening part of this movie, I kept saying it in my head that it's just a movie. But to be on the safer side, I didn't watch it at night, movie was seen during the day with everyone awake and around me.
We'd do the plot, then dive right in to lessons from the movie and how it made me feel.
PLOT
The movie began with a young lady running out of her house terrified, she was running away from something but nothing was seen. Her neighbour kept asking her if all was well. Frightened she'll respond that she's fine even when she panics. All effort to help her keep calm proved abortive as she ran inside grabbed car keys and drove off on high speed.
Next, we saw her in the beach at night, where she called her father and apologised for her unruly behaviour. She said her goodbyes and by morning she was dead in the most horrifying of ways.
In a new spin, the movie introduced a teenage girl called Jay. Jay has a sister whom they both live with their mom that was rarely seen. Nothing much was said about their father but we soon discovered that he passed. Thus, given their parental condition, both Jay and her sister grew close and drew strength from each other.
Along the line, Jay started a relationship with a guy named Hugh. She was happy and would always share every little details with her sister whom also seemed to like Hugh for her.
However, they soon discovered that Hugh is not who he claimed to be as behind the pretty boy mask, is a troubled teen who got entangled with the dark side and was hunted by it. Desperately looking for an escape, Hugh soughted out Jay whom through intimacy, he used as an exchange of himself and handed her over to the dark forces who keeps trailing him. These ultimately made her share in his curse too of being followed by shape shifting scary entities.
Again, while Hugh was correct in his theory of passing the dark forces on through intimacy, he was disappointed to find out that the dark forces still follows and hovers around him, waiting to take his life along side it's new Victim Jay.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE
For me, the movie seemed quite incomplete such that the viewer is not given any back story as to how the curse of it followed came about. The ending was a little flat too because we the viewers were left hanging with a lot of questions.
Then there was the annoying part after Hugh informed Jay of the curse and was giving her briefings as to how to stay alive, he kept telling her that he was trying to help her not to get killed. Then he tells her to keep passing it on so that the entity will continue to kill her victims and spare her which ultimately spares him. In the end, while Jay thinks Hugh is helping her, he's just one selfish individual passing on his burden to live on innocent people.
I don't think Jay realises that she was being used as she kept being intimate with random people which makes her just as selfish as Hugh and I think that they both deserve each other.
In the real sense, this movie is just a reflection of our society and our morals. It's basically just another movie warning on the dangers of being intimate with random people.
I'd rate it 5/10 for effort.

Hmm you didn't make the movie sound horrific π but no, I still won't see it because I love my peace of mind when I watch movies.
The storyline is indeed with a good lesson to learn from. Too bad, Jay turned selfish too because she fell for the wrong guy.
You did not see I gave it 5/10? I was disappointed πβΉοΈ
I haven't seen this and courtesy of your review I may not be seeing itπ
But I'm thrilled that you finally decided to see a horror film, although you didn't like it very much.
Maybe because I have gathered mind sha π . Let me look for another horror movie to watch first π
This thing dey sweet youπππ
I like how you explained the movie. It really shows how people sometimes pass their problems to others instead of dealing with them. Hugh was just looking for a way to escape, and Jay ended up doing the same. Itβs scary how this also happens in real life.
