[PL / ENG] Klaus [2019]

Wczoraj celem zrelaksowania się w tej stresującej rzeczywistości obejrzeliśmy sobie rodzinnie kolejną świąteczną bajkę - "Klaus".

Yesterday, in order to relax in this stressful reality, we watched another Christmas fairy tale as a family - "Klaus".

O rety, jakie to było dobre! Nie wiem, czy zbiło z pierwszego miejsca "Tamte święta", ale chyba razem z nim wspólnie umościło się na podium. Choć to zupełnie inna historia: mroczna, niepokojąca animacja, o paskudnym miasteczku, w którym płonie nienawiść, i jest szaroburo, ohydnie. I tam trafia główny bohater: listonosz, z misją rozkręcenia poczty na tym końcu świata. Tylko jak to zrobić, skoro tu nikt do nikogo nie pisze listów?

Oh my, it was so good! I don't know if it knocked "That Christmas" off the top spot, but I think it tied for first place. Although it's a completely different story: a dark, disturbing animation about a nasty town where hatred burns, and everything is gray and disgusting. And there ends up the main character: a postman, on a mission to get the post office going at this end of the world. But how can you do that when no one here writes letters to anyone?

To bajka, która jest dobra na wielu płaszczyznach, a sądzę, że na tej dla dorosłych - najlepsza. Przedstawia historię Mikołaja w wersji realistycznej, i przez większą część bajki można by sądzić, że całkiem obdziera ją z magii - ale na szczęście nie jest tak do końca. Sam finał jest zresztą piękny i wzruszający.

It's a fairy tale that's good on many levels, and I think it's the best for adults. It presents the story of Santa Claus in a realistic version, and for most of the story, you might think it strips it of its magic—but thankfully, that's not entirely the case. The ending itself is beautiful and touching.

Nie zwiedźcie się ładnymi migawkami, które widać na filmwebie. Początek tej bajki to naprawdę ponura, jak dla mnie wręcz ciężka animacja, której nie odmawiam absolutnie jakości - bo jest zrobiona wspaniale, a jej celem jest wywołanie niepokoju. Do tego stopnia, że trochę zastanawiałam się, czy to aby na pewno bajka dla dzieci. No i czy jest świąteczna - bo przez długą jej część o świętach ani słowa. Ale potem światło rozjaśnia mroki, świat staje się piękny i nadchodzą święta. I jest cudnie.

Don't be fooled by the pretty snapshots you see on FilmWeb. The beginning of this fairy tale is truly gloomy, even, in my opinion, heavy animation, which I absolutely cannot deny its quality – it's beautifully done and its purpose is to evoke anxiety. So much so that I wondered a bit if it was really a fairy tale for children. And if it was Christmas-themed – because for a long part of it, there's not a word about the holidays. But then light illuminates the darkness, the world becomes beautiful, and the holidays arrive. And it's wonderful.
