Mary Kom

Still dwelling in the world of Bollywood. I don't know why some people decided that all Bollywood is filled with songs and dances. Hehe. You can’t justify a book by its cover. Though it is obvious that a higher percentage of these Bollywood movies come with scenes like that, not all do. There are still some amazing acts among them.

The mystery remains that most of these amazing movies are not always available to watch at all times. They appear once in a blue moon. But once they appear, it's best to grab a copy of it and enjoy it while it's hot. I feel surprised at times when I name some movie titles, and then some people are yet to even hear about it. So the movie I thought was so popular and highly rated never even got into the hearings of some people.

Just like recently, I began to see updates about the movie titled “Old Guard”. Haa. And I was like, Old Guard 2 will be released in July? Where was I when everyone was watching Old Guard 1? 😂. Maybe I was busy watching some long episodes of Kdrama.

So that's how it happens. It's not always on someone's side. You get to watch what you love and ignore the rest. Mary Kom has been an amazing watch for me because of my interest in watching movies that are based on true-life stories, and also inspiring movies with life morals.

Mary Kom

This is a 2014 released movie, yeah, kinda old act, almost over a decade ago, but I can say it's still worth watching. It has its genre about sports, action, and biography. The movie ran for about 122 minutes.

The Plot.

The daughter of a rice farmer in a village in India came across a boxing glove among the remnants from a plane crash. She took it and was inspired to become a boxer. Her father noticed her love for the sport and tried all he could to make sure she didn’t push forward in that path.

On her end, so determined, Mary decided to join a gym where she could practice freely under her dad's supervision. She will make her mother aware of her moves and her next step of action. While in the gym, she met with a coach. But the coach never gave her any attention.

Her persistent nature made the coach give her some attention. And he then realized that she is beyond ordinary. Her passion for boxing got her into the world of women's boxing for the year 2002. She did well, and her father, who happened to scold her for not listening to him, apologized for not understanding her passion towards the sport.

Mary met with a footballer, Onler Kom. He supported her and also proposed to marry her, but the coach never wanted such. Mary got married after winning the world championship in 2008. She drew back from her career and decided to face her family.

After giving birth to twins, she was not recognized like before, so she took it upon herself to resume training, leaving the twins in her husband's care. Mary did her best and was a part of finalist. On getting to her final match, she heard the news that one of her twins was diagnosed with a deadly disease and needed surgery.

Lack of concentration got her to lose the first round, but in the final round, she hallucinated about her husband and kids, got herself back, and kicked fire till she won. Upon getting her award, she was told that the surgery of her kid was successful.

Casts

Priyanka Chopra as Mary Kom

Veteran Bollywood actress Priyanka was the lead cast in the movie, and I would say that her stunning beauty is one of the major highlights of the movie. She also delivered so perfectly. She made the movie worth watching.

Ratings and conclusion

If I were to rate the movie on a scale of 10, I would give it an 8.5 out of 10. The cast did well, and the storyline also got a good ending. If you are the type who derives joy in watching movies based on true stories, then I recommend Mary Kom.

I think this was Priyanka Chopra's last movie in Bollywood before she left India. By the way, nice review.

Facing her family after winning the championship is good and this shows that family is very important and most especially to women.
