Jeez! I can't get this song off my head easily especially when I remember watching the movie titled “Jewel in the Place”. What an amazing watch.

I got into an argumentative conversation with a friend today. I don't know why I got into it, but I think it's just about my love for Korean historical drama. I love watching them with all my heart, especially those that are based on true-life stories.

I don’t really care about how long the episodes are, so far it has a good storyline, amazing casts, and good songs when needed then we are actually good to go!

The argument came up when I saw him upload some scenes from the movie “Jumong” and then he captioned the clip saying that he who hasn’t watched Jumong no matter how much he watches movies is not regarded as a movie lover. Hehe.

I said, Jumong? Many other movies beat down Jumong. Movies that are even actually based on true life stories will surely leave you thinking of watching them again. There is no way you won't pay attention to every scene that’s happening in it.

He then asked me to mention five of them, trying to leave him convinced. Okay. I mentioned some of them to him and tagged Jewel in the Palace as my favorite. The discussion went on until he accepted and promised he would give it a trial.

Jewel In The Palace.

The movie is a 2003 released movie. So yeah! It’s an old one. But I can bet it's never gotten old but an evergreen movie. It has 54 episodes with an average duration of 59 minutes for each episode. It has a genre with a mix of biography, history, and drama.

The plot.

Jang Geum who was born as the daughter of a former palace guard and her mother who was a worker in the royal kitchen. Her birth was a misfortune to the palace guard. As he was told to try as much to avoid three women in his life.

If he meets the first one it will surely lead to meeting the remaining two. The first one was the chef who worked in the royal kitchen. If he meets her, no matter how much he tries to save her, she will be the cause of his death. And once he meets her she will link to the second woman and cause the death of the first.

The prophecy came to pass and he gave birth to Jang Geum which became the cause of her mother's death and her father's too. Trying to save her life she wandered across the country and faced a lot of challenges. She tried to find out the truth behind her parent's death and set out for revenge.

The revenge made her work her way into the royal kitchen just to know more about her parents. She was too good with her skills which made her get envied and punished but those who didn't want her among them. Jang Geum, so patient and determined, was cast out of the Royal kitchen.

She later discovered that her mum was a staff in the kitchen and that has brought about her passion for cooking and the restrictions her mother has always given her as a child.

Her fate changed as she couldn’t make it to the royal kitchen anymore. So determined, she channeled her energy towards medicine. With that, she became professional and proficient in the skills that she was summoned into the palace again as medical personnel. Her skills were also outstanding as he could treat a lot of deadly diseases in the Royal family.

She gained the love of the queen and the king of the nation, this made him reinstated her as the Royal physician. Many went against it, even though the king wanted her as a concubine but that was another story 😂. She became the First Ever Female Royal Physician to the King. In the end, she found out the truth about her parents and tried as much to clear their names.

The main cast of the movie and so beautiful. I will confess that she is one of the major reasons why I was so focused all through the movie. She played her role perfectly as the main cast. I haven’t seen much of her other movies yet. But I am sure she is a good actress.

Ratings and Recommendations

If I were to rate the movie on a scale of 10, then I would give it an 8.5/10 rating. The movie was more about revenge and politics and this is something viewers might not want. Though it's part of what made it interesting to watch. So if you are a fan of true-life movies and also interested in watching drama series. I recommend Jewel In The Palace.
