Post MiCA fallout: Austria has become a FinTech hub for MiCA-regulated crypto exchanges in the EU

Ab heute ist die Übergangsphase zur MiCA-Regulierung in der EU geendet, was einen großen Rückgang an FinTech- und Krypto-Anbietern in der EU zur Folge hat. Kritiker sehen darin einen Kahlschlag der FinTech-Industrie, was langfristig Wohlstand in der EU kosten könnte, wenn Bürger und Unternehmen weniger an den global wichtigen Kapitalmärkten partizipieren und auch durch das negative Sentiment in den Massenmedien abgeschreckt werden, Risikokapital in der EU bereitzustellen.

Aber es gibt auch einen Gewinner der neuen MiCA-Regulierung. Österreich. Österreich hat sich in den letzten Jahren trotz Hochsteuerland als Krypto-Standort etabliert, und ist jetzt zu einem MiCA-Hub in der EU geworden. Bitpanda, Bybit EU, KuCoin EU, WhiteBIT EU, und auch Coinfinity (das in der Liste von Cointelegraph fehlt) sind in Österreich mit einer MiCA-Lizenz registriert und können weiterhin FinTech-Dienstleistungen in der EU anbieten, allerdings teilweise in einem eingeschränkten Ausmaß im Vergleich zu den internationalen Playern wie Binance oder Bybit Global.

Weitere beliebte FinTech-Standorte in der EU sind Malta, Luxemburg, Niederlande und Zypern, aber die meisten Exchanges sind derzeit in Österreich registriert, was beachtlich ist.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Warum ist Österreich im Private Banking und FinTech-Sektor so erfolgreich und hat darin sogar Deutschland überholt, obwohl Österreich als Hochsteuerland gilt und schon lange die Haltefrist für Bitcoin abgeschafft hat?

As of today, the transition period for the MiCA regulation in the EU has ended, resulting in a significant decline in the number of fintech and crypto providers in the EU. Critics view this as a devastating blow to the European fintech industry, which could cost the EU prosperity in the long term if citizens and businesses participate less in globally important capital markets and are also deterred by negative sentiment in the mass media from providing venture capital in the EU.

But there is also one winner from the new MiCA regulation: Austria. Despite being a high-tax country, Austria has established itself as a crypto hub in recent years and has now become a MiCA hub within the EU. Bitpanda, Bybit EU, KuCoin EU, WhiteBIT EU, and Coinfinity (which is missing from Cointelegraph’s list) are registered in Austria with a MiCA license and can continue to offer fintech services in the EU, albeit to a limited extent in some cases compared to international players like Binance or Bybit Global.

Other popular fintech hubs in the EU include Malta, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Cyprus, but the fact that most exchanges are currently registered in Austria is noteworthy.
