Finally started to learn Spanish with Duolingo. Have you given it a try?

Hab jetzt endlich mit der Online-App Duolingo angefangen, Spanisch zu lernen.

Duolingo ist richtig cool, eine amerikanische Firma hat das Lernen von vielen, aber nicht allen europäischen Sprachen, gamifiziert und bietet natürlich auch einen Spanisch-Kurs mit starkem US und Lateinamerika-Fokus. Perfecto.

Anstatt dass man jeden Tag Games zockt oder Social Media doomscrollt, kann man auch 5-10 Minuten täglich eine neue Sprache mit der App lernen.

Die Methode ist sehr praxisnah und Konversations-optimiert, die Grammatik wird zumindest in den ersten Lektionen nicht direkt unterrichtet, sondern man lernt sie einfach auf natürliche Weise bei den Konversations-Übungen mit.

Die App drängt einen täglich ein Abo abzuschließen, aber man kann sie auch kostenlos (werbefinanziert) verwenden und am Anfang sogar im Gegensatz zu europäischen Clones ohne E-Mail-Registrierung starten.

Was für eine Ironie. EU-Lern-Apps zwingen einen zur Registrierung, die US-App hingegen nicht.

Aber es gibt auch etwas, was nicht allen gefallen wird, die App vermittelt und promotet gleich zu Beginn auch woke Inhalte.

Und noch etwas hat mich überrascht, Duolingo hat noch nicht so einen starken KI-Fokus und wirbt im Moment auch nicht aggressiv mit AI-Buzzwords. Aber das kommt vielleicht noch, KI könnte aber auch nützlich sein, wenn sie gut und sinnvoll integriert wird, zum Beispiel um Antworten auch per Spracheingabe sprechen zu können. Das wäre ein sinnvolles Feature.

I’ve finally started learning Spanish with the Duolingo app.

Duolingo is really cool, an American company has gamified the learning of many, though not all, European languages, and of course it also offers a Spanish course with a strong focus on the U.S. and Latin America. Perfecto.

Instead of playing video games or doom scrolling through social media every day, you can also spend 5–10 minutes a day learning a new language with the app.

The method is very practical and conversation-focused, grammar isn’t taught directly, at least not in the first few lessons, but you simply pick it up naturally through the conversation exercises.

The app pushes you to sign up for a subscription every day, but you can also use it for free (ad-supported) and, unlike European clones, even start without an email registration.

What an irony. EU learning apps force you to register, while the U.S. app doesn’t.

But there’s also something that won’t appeal to everyone: right from the start, the app conveys and promotes woke content.

And something else surprised me: Duolingo doesn’t have such a strong AI focus yet or at least isn’t aggressively advertising with AI buzzwords at the moment. But that might still come, AI can also be useful if it’s integrated well and sensibly, for example, to provide answers via voice input would be a useful feature.
