Binance co-founder CZ released from prison. How the whole arrest affected Hive.

Der Co-Founder und ehemalige CEO von Binance und chinesisch-kanadische Geschäftsmann CZ (Changpeng) wurde am 29. September 2024 vom Gefängnis entlassen. Im April musste er in den USA eine 4 monatige Haftstrafe antreten.

Das war Teil eines Deals mit den US-Behörden, die Binance jahrelang verfolgt und unter anderem Geldwäsche (mangelhaftes KYC), Geschäfte mit Kunden aus sanktionierten Ländern (zb dem Iran) und SEC-Verstöße vorgeworfen haben.

Der Deal mit der Justiz sah wie folgt aus: Binance muss sich mindestens 5 Jahre komplett aus dem US-Markt zurückziehen, CZ 3 Jahre nicht mehr CEO und im Unternehmen aktiv sein und 4 Monate ins Gefängnis.

Weiters wurde Binance eine 4.3 Milliarden Dollar Strafe aufgebrummt und CZ musste persönlich 50 Millionen als Teil des Deals zahlen. Ohne Deal hätte ihm eine jahrelange Haft in den USA gedroht.

Das ist der Grund, warum CZ, obwohl er aus der Haft entlassen wurde, nicht mehr offiziell in Binance aktiv sein kann.

Aber die größte Auswirkung des Deals, die auch Hive stark getroffen hat, war der Rückzug von Binance aus den USA. Binance ist nach wie vor gemessen am Handelsvolumen die weltweit größte Krypto-Börse. Daran hat sich nichts geändert.

Auf einen Schlag hat Hive mit der Verhaftung von CZ, die wichtigste Listung in den USA verloren. Hive ist in den USA damit nur noch schwer handelbar und nur noch auf kleineren Börsen vertreten.

Das könnte auch ein Grund sein, warum Hive so schwer vom Fleck kommt. Es ist vor allem im wichtigen US-Markt nur noch schwer zu traden.

The co-founder and former CEO of Binance and Chinese-Canadian businessman CZ (Changpeng) was released from prison on September 29th, 2024. In April, he had to serve a 4-month prison sentence in the U.S.

This was part of a deal with the U.S. authorities, who had been pursuing Binance for years and accused them of money laundering (inadequate KYC), doing business with clients from sanctioned countries (e.g. Iran) and SEC violations, among other things.

The deal with the judiciary was as follows: Binance must completely withdraw from the US market for at least 5 years, CZ must not be CEO or active in the company for 3 years and 4 months in prison.

In addition, Binance was fined 4.3 billion dollars and CZ had to personally pay 50 million as part of the deal. Without the deal, he would have faced years in prison in the US.

This is the reason why CZ, despite being released from prison, can no longer be officially active in Binance.

But the biggest impact of the deal, which also hit Hive hard, was Binance's withdrawal from the U.S. Binance is still the world's largest crypto exchange in terms of trading volume. Nothing has changed in this respect.

With the arrest of CZ, Hive has lost its most important listing in the U.S. in one fell swoop. Hive is now difficult to trade in the U.S. and is only represented on smaller exchanges.

This could also be a reason why Hive is struggling so much. It is difficult to trade, especially in the important U.S. market.
