33rd Wave Gothic Treffen (WGT) in Leizpig, Germany, largest dark music festival in the world.

(edited)

Hauptbands spielten in der großen agra Messehalle, darunter Kim Wilde, Einstürzende Neubauten, Suicide Commando, Frontline Assembly, Covenant, Clan of Xymox, She Past Away, London after Midnight, Lacrimosa und Moonspell.

Was sagt ihr dazu?

I went to the WGT (Wave Gothic Treffen) in Leipzig, Germany for the first time this weekend, it was a blast. I’d never been to such a huge (dark culture) music festival before, the event took place across multiple venues and over several days throughout the city. At first I was a bit overwhelmed by the lineup, which wasn’t announced until two weeks (!) before the WGT, more than 200 bands were playing, so it was a tough decision where to go. The most important rule: you can’t see everything, so just go wherever you feel like having fun.

About 20,000 visitors came to the Saxon city, mostly in black outfits, it was pretty funny. Even the trams were packed with goths. There were long lines and even admission stops at some events.

Musically, the WGT is a mix of gothic, metal, rock, dark electro, industrial, EBM, punk, folk, and medieval. I think there’s really a band for everyone, if you like the music.

Headlining bands played in the large agra exhibition hall, including Kim Wilde, Einstürzende Neubauten, Suicide Commando, Frontline Assembly, Covenant, Clan of Xymox, She Past Away, London after Midnight, Lacrimosa, and Moonspell.

I still need to recover a bit from the long weekend. I also walked a lot, distances in Leipzig are greater than I expected, especially since the agra hall is located quite far south of the city center.

What do you think? Have you ever been to the WGT or a big rock festival?

I love rock festivals, although I don't have the opportunity to go to many.

I've never been to WGT, but Germany is one of my dream destinations. Based on what I have read before in social media posts, most visitors enjoy every time they attend, especially those who like music a lot.

I've lived for over 40 years and only now have I discovered that WGT music exists!
Thanks for the report.
