It is very real in matters of traffic. If you try to build any website, like a Hive frontend, you get hundreds and hundreds of page views from bots for each half a dozen humans who actually check what you built
So what? Where is the problem?
It gets hard for developers to scale properly, they always have to overprovision infrastructure taking bot abuse into account.
It also gets hard for investors trying to evaluate the real value of a digital solution since it may sometimes be hard to make out the bits from the humans (happens a lot to Hive frontends who have "millions" of pages served but a few hundred users)
Also gets hard for users to know their own metrics "did my post really get 1000 views or did 1000 bots open it?", "am I writing for humans to read?"
