DESTINY: DO WE DECIDE OUR FUTURE OR ARE WE PUPPETS OF EXISTENCE? / DESTINO: NÓS DECIDIMOS NOSSO FUTURO OU SOMOS FANTOCHES DA EXISTÊNCIA? (EN/PT)

Believing in destiny means accepting that humanity has no control over its actions. The future is already predestined, all events are already pre-determined. You simply follow the flow of life, believing you are in control of your existence.

Personally, I don't believe in destiny. I like to believe that humans have free will, and that each choice generates consequences and unexpected situations. Using religious knowledge as a reference, Christianity preaches that humans are free to decide what they will do with their lives; however, they will be held accountable for their actions.

A phrase I heard as a child was: "chase your destiny." Reflecting: if it's destiny, I don't need to chase it; it will be my destiny regardless of my actions. Talking about destiny is complex and relative. Let's imagine a crazy situation involving a young person: is your destiny to be rich or poor? Therein lies the great dilemma: if he does nothing and is poor, people will say it was his destiny. If he is hardworking, knows how to multiply his money, and becomes rich, people will say the same: it was his destiny. Thinking about it, it's a concept created by humanity to justify human existence.

Although I don't believe in destiny, I do believe in purpose. I believe that every human being has a role to play in their existence, with humanity or with others lliving beings. However, whether or not they fulfill that role will depend on their choices.

Talking about destiny and purpose is complex. I compare it to quantum physics, a completely abstract subject. There's no way to say with 100% certainty what you preach; everything is based on the guesswork of individual opinion. The only certainty we have after our birth is that our life will end at some point.

Thank you all for your attention, until next time.

Truly this words destiny and purpose are very complex.

Our actions and reactions goes a long way to shape and redefine our destinies

Exactly.
Our ways and how we want life to be for us is destiny.

Therein lies the great dilemma: if he does nothing and is poor, people will say it was his destiny. If he is hardworking, knows how to multiply his money, and becomes rich, people will say the same: it was his destiny.

This is the part that I don't like about destiny. Because, it's like when they say "an overnight success", people are simplifying and maybe even disregarding all the work that person had to do to get to where they are. Of course, luck and the people around them influence the outcome, but it's the person's actions that helped them get to where they are and take advantage of the events that occurred in his life.
