The Financial Lessons I wish I had Learned In School

Financial Education -

Hello #qccommunity, I trust your day is going well. Welcome to my blog. Financial education is one of the best things that could have happened to me in my early days at school; however, it wasn't included in the curriculum as a subject. Instead, we had subjects like mathematics, further math, and accounting studies.

However, financial education encompasses learning financial management, budgeting, savings, and debt management. Little wonder many left school without learning how to invest appropriately or even take advantage of financial opportunities that present themselves in disguise.

During my school days, I yearned to be financially free and, as such, indulged in trading and online surveys without knowledge of financial education. Financial education would have taught me skills such as financial planning, cash flow management, and savings. This is because I was earning and spending without control or budgeting. Again, I would have learnt how to budget and plan my monthly expenses. Lack of financial education made me spend without limits and be less accountable to myself. I was living a free-style life financially.

Furthermore, financial education was not introduced to students at a young age, probably because authorities were afraid of exposing them to money early in life, which may push them to make desperate moves for money. Again, there is a belief that parents will imbibe financial education and accountability in their children at home. Over time, this notion failed, and students grew ignorant of financial skills, causing many to struggle with financial management after they started making money.

The most important lesson I have learnt so far is that making money without the ability to plan with the money, spend wisely through a budget, and manage finances through self-discipline is a risky venture.

In conclusion, a man’s wealth is not measured by what he owns but by what he preserves; therefore, teaching financial education at school at an early age would prepare students to earn and preserve their wealth for the rainy day in a prudent manner.
