Destiny( Can We Shape Our Own Future or Its Predetermined)

This topic is truly dicey and logical. I have tried to reason it from so many perspectives, but I think I can make progress with the write-up.

You see this thing called destiny, for me, it is a charade of belief, attitude, and time. Destiny is understood as a preordained event of life. Something that is said to be or happen no matter what one does. These things might be good, bad, or even ugly events.

Destiny might be a matter of one's culture, family traits, talent, and belief system. There is a notion that once you are born into a wealthy or royal family, you will be wealthy or royal. Conversely, there are also beliefs that some families are destined to be poor or not to be married. Examples are those born into the OSU caste system, it is believed that they are dedicated to the deity by their forefathers for various reasons and therefore not to be married, mingle with others in society or even bid for any leadership role in society. They are destined to remain single for the rest of their lives. What a world. Just by the wrong action of one, the generation is either destined to be poor or not to be married. And then by custom or coincidence, or twist of events, some are destined to be royal and wealthy forever.

Thanks to modernisation, transformation and courageousness. So many people have changed that narrative. I have seen individuals from wealthy homes who ended up very poor. While the events of life have predestined them as wealthy individuals, their attitudes and way of living pushed them out of the limelight, and today they are living in poverty. The implication is that concerted and consistent efforts are necessary to maintain or liberate from any status one finds themselves in that does not appeal to them.

Do I believe in Destiny?

Yes, I do, but my view is that it's a starting point while we evolve. If I am told that I am destined to be rich, but I do not put in enough effort, that might not hold water. Again, some have great Talent embedded in them from their family clan, but because they do not harness and develop that skill or talent, they lose it.

Additionally, I do not believe everything is already written. This is because we have been given the power of choice. I also have been given everything that pertains to Godliness and righteousness. Therefore, I have the power to impact, add value and change things that are not the way I want them to be, through consistency and concerted efforts. If it means registering for a course to develop a skill that will help me get a better job, I do it; if it means staying back at work to add value that will earn me a promotion, I do it. If the extra mile is going to please my customers and make me win a bigger contract, I will do just that. Everything is about steady, consistent and concerted efforts towards achieving the desired destiny.

Healthwise, I have heard stories that a particular family suffer from one terminal sickness or another that destined them to die at 40 or 50 years. While some subconsciously died even before that age, the bold ones made it above that age. In the words of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar,” Cowards die many times before their deaths. Destiny, from my own point of view, can be reshaped even if it is believed to be written.” The valiant never taste of death but once,” Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Why would one wait for a pronouncement of death when you have the power of choice to choose your fate and not allow some ridiculous thoughts and history to decide your fate?

And this is my Why.

Chike was born into a poor and wretched family of 4 girls and two boys. Growing up, everybody in the neighbourhood avoided them because they were poor. They were tagged with different bad identities, the worst being “poverty home”. His sisters were not married, and none of them went to school. At the age of 16, Chike approached his parents and requested that they send him to an apprenticeship with their kinsman in the town, which they agreed to. Chike was sent to the man who sells building materials in the township for a 7-year apprenticeship. After 7 years, he was given an agreed sum to start his own business. He launched his own business and, 3 years later, changed his family's status. They became wealthy and a family to reckon with. Has Chike not changed the ridiculous, poverty-stricken destiny?

Our times are in our hands. We can rewrite history and create a better version of ourselves.
