No soccer for me this weekend. Instead, I spent the better part of Saturday morning doing some yard work that needed to get done around the @bozz homestead. I say "homestead", but it's really only .25 acres with a house on it, so it really isn't as impressive as I make it sound!
As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I actually didn't get a lot of time to watch college football because of the big dispute between Disney and YouTube TV that is happening right now. I normally would have had some combination of multi-view on the TV. Instead, I spent the majority of my time watching the Ohio State game and tooling around on Discord trying to figure out how to recover from the dissolution of the BRO community.
There were football games on though, and I am going to talk about those right now. Before we get to the top 25 stuff, let's talk about Michigan State an their miserable showing at Minnesota. It was their game to lose, and they did just that. Actually, in this case, I put a lot of blame on the officials.
They had some really questionable calls that definitely changed the outcome of the game. That being said, this play on John Smith doesn't seem to be working out. I've heard he might be leaving to go to UCLA, but I don't know if that is true. I'd love for him to leave voluntarily and then MSU picks up the former Penn State coach. I doubt that will happen though.
Week was actually a bit boring if you want to look at the zoomed out view.
Ohio State stays in the number 1 spot with a 38 to 14 win over Penn State. At the beginning of the season this was one of the most anticipated games of the year, but after the absolute meltdown by Penn State, I think it ended up being a bit more of a footnote. Hats off to Penn State for those two touchdowns they scored, but otherwise... yawn.
Texas had a big 34 to 31 win over Vanderbilt dropping Vandy down to number 15 and boosting the Longhorns up to number 13. Also SMU took down Miami in over time beating them 26 to 20. This is a tough blow for a team that many of the analysts were picking as a national title contender at the beginning of the season.
Likewise, West Virginia bested Houston at Houston 45 to 35 to knock them out of the top 25.
Indiana sit squarely in the number 2 spot with a huge 55 to 10 win over Maryland. Right now it is looking like an Indiana/Ohio State showdown is in the cards for the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State needs to get past Michigan first though.
Finally, we have North Carolina State beating number 16 Georgia Tech 48 to 36 for the final upset of the weekend.
I'm still kind of surprised that BYU is hanging out in the number 8 spot despite being one of four teams in the nation without a loss. I guess they are going to claim strength of schedule or something like that...
Check back tomorrow for my recap of the NFL action this weekend.
