It's a pretty big night in the world of college sports as the first game of the football semifinals takes place to night between Miami and Ole Miss. I'm probably not going to stay up to watch it since it doesn't even start until 7:30 at night, but I will definitely be interested to see the outcome.
I have a feeling although Miami is a ten seed and Ole Miss is ranked 6, Miami is going to have a bit of an edge in this game. They have a lot of momentum behind them and I wouldn't be surprised if they continued to play underdog and come away with the upset.
I do think it is pretty lame that tomorrow night Indiana has to play Oregon. It would have been cooler if they had put the two Big Ten teams in separate games, but they are likely trying to avoid an all Big Ten championship or something like that.
Either way, it should make for some exciting football the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, on the women's college basketball side of things, the season is in full swing.
Connecticut, Texas, South Carolina, and UCLA seem to be solidly in the top spots when it comes to the top 25 (in that order). Where other teams have been jockeying for position in the lower ranks, those teams continue to chug along. In fact, both Connecticut and Texas are both undefeated so far this season.
Actually, Vandy is undefeated too, but I have a feeling strength of schedule plays into that and that is why they are in the 7th spot despite their record.
The rest of the top ten fills out with Oklahoma, Kentucky, Vandy, Maryland, Michigan, and Louisville.
From there we finish off the top 25 with Iowa State, LSU, TCU, Iowa, Michigan State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Mississippi, Ohio State, Tennessee, USC, North Carolina, Washington, Princeton, and Nebraska.
It's pretty awesome to see so many Big Ten teams represented in the women's top 25. Even three of the newer teams that haven't been in the conference more than a year.
On a more personal side of things, our nieces friend that was playing for Wisconsin decided to enter the transfer portal and has now found herself playing at Coastal Carolina. She has been doing really well and continues to pad her resume.
I'm glad that she found place to play that is more comfortable for her and actually gives her the minutes on the court that she deserves. Meanwhile, they have another friend that is currently playing at Indiana Tech, and she is killing it as well with a season average of 17.9 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.
It's pretty awesome to watch these players who our nieces used to share the court with do so well in their college careers. Oddly enough, the second one I mentioned used to be a pretty great softball player too.
