Halfway There!

Speaking of halves, the first half of the Michigan State basketball game last night was absolutely horrible. It wasn't quite as bad as the 19 turnover game against Nebraska, but it is pretty clear turnovers are still an issue for the Spartans. They were playing a 0-3 Northwestern team last night and they made it look like the Wildcats were actually good.

Okay, it's not that Northwestern is bad, but an 0-3 record in conference play tells you pretty much everything you need to know. Yes, the Big Ten is kind of stacked this year, but still. I really hate how the Spartans continue to play down to their opponents. Yes, they ended up winning the game by 10 points, but it was a much harder road to get there than it should have been.

On the flip side you have Michigan that is just going all Cobra Kai on their opponents showing them zero mercy. I have a feeling it is going to be a rougher season for us than I anticipated. Which sucks because after the horrible Michigan State football season, I was really looking forward to the basketball season.

To be fair, there were some pretty bad calls in the first half last night. There were at least two charges that the officials somehow called as defensive fouls. I think they need to go back and watch the classic movie Eddie to see what having your feet planted actually looks like.

Meanwhile, we also had the first game of the college football playoff semifinals last night. As I predicted, the final result was a Miami win, but it wasn't as easy of a victory as I had anticipated. The game was actually pretty close going into halftime with Miami only leading by 1 point 14 to 13.

It's actually pretty interesting that this was the ultimate result as many people considered Miami one of the best teams in the nation way back at week 1. I kind of disregarded it myself, but here we are with them getting ready to play either Indiana or Oregon for the national championship.

I saw a graphic earlier today that showed the four (now three) remaining teams and the number of four star and five star recruits they started the season with. Compared to the other teams, Indiana was at the bottom of the list with zero five star recruits and only seven four star recruits. Yet right now they are the number 1 team in the country with a Heisman winning quarterback, and a chance to win the national championship.

It's kind of scary just how good they are, but it gives me hope that one day Michigan State could see some similar results with their team.

Here's hoping anyway!
