Bombs and Small Ball
I think it is interesting the difference between sports fans who prefer close games over lopsided games. Of course, many fans would argue if it's "their" team winning, they don't mind a nice blow out victory. On the other hand, if they have less of a vested interest in either of the teams, then they might hope for a closer game to "keep things exciting". I can definitely appreciate both of those sentiments and while I likely fall into that same group, blowouts are always a bit more fun for me to write about than games that are determined by one or two points.
With blowout games I get to use terms like "hammered", "obliterated", "destroyed", "mauled"... You get the idea.
It just seems a lot more colorful than team x beat team y 3 to 2.
Well, if you are like me and you really enjoy those blow out wins, you are going to be really happy with my update from the Little League World Series today.
In a shocker for me, Game 29 started with Curacao throttling Latin America 12 to 3 in a massive victory for the small island nation that sits off the coast of Venezuela. Of course I have heard of Curacao before, and their blue liqueur is quite delicious, but I honestly had to Google where it is specifically located.
Meanwhile, in the Mountain game versus the Midwest team, Mountain absolutely crushed the Midwest team 14 to 6. This moves both Latin America and the Midwest down to the elimination bracket to take on the winners of the other two games that took place yesterday.
Those two games actually take place today.
I watched part of the Great Lakes vs. Southeast game last night with the team from Ohio taking a quick 4 to 0 lead against the team from Alabama in the first inning. Alabama picked up an early run to make it 4 to 1, but unfortunately for them runs were hard to come by and they succumbed to the onslaught from the Great Lakes 11 to 2. This pits The Great Lakes team against the Midwest in their elimination game today. With 37 runs under their belt and only about 11 runs given up, I am putting my money on my home region for this game. Let's go Great Lakes!
Finally, Japan is still working on completing their comeback taking down Canada 7 to 3 and earning them a spot against Latin America in the elimination game today.
Despite their early loss to Curacao, Japan appears to have a pretty stifling defense, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them take down Latin America today and fight their way back to another showdown with Curacao and maybe a bit of redemption.
