From Job Hunt to Comedy Scene in Minutes

I was searching for a different community to explore today and comedy came to mind. It's been a while here but I've not stopped hearing or reading jokes and laughing so here I am to share my experience with you. I love the prompt because I have two experiences I can't forget.

I'll share just one of my interview experiences I had, and it was an offline interview. Before the main story... No, I didn't get the job and here is why I didn't and why I don't even regret I didn't.

My First Ever Interview at a school.

I had just finished a 1 year program and while waiting for admission, I thought I should go do some teaching job. I saw a vacancy sign at a big school and I immediately went in and asked about the opening, what I did not plan for at all happened, A quick interview with the principal.

Yes, I know I should have expected that but I honestly didn't. It's just to teach children, isn't it?

Here's how our conversation went when I woke up to reality to face an unprepared interview.

Principal: Have you taught in a school before?

Me: Yes, I taught a nursery class for a term after secondary school.

I messed up there, I shouldn't have told him the exact class I taught and for how long. Because he automatically began to see me as a daycare or nursery potential teacher, I just couldn't point how I could actually see it all over his face. 😩

Principal: Good, here is a chalkboard and I am your nursery kid, teach me any subject.

Me: (feeling lost and wanting to just go home and sleep, I acted deaf briefly). Sir, you said?

He repeated himself without mincing word or at least changing the part where I'll have to actually see a grown man as a kid to teach him. My heart cried when I realized what I had gotten myself into. I picked up the chalk and stood in front of him with confidence I didn't even know I had.

If you can picture this very well, you'd see how funny and crazy it was for a young girl to teach an old man in nursery style. I even said "I will flog you if you can not answer that simple question" when I got to the part where I ask the kids questions. And that wasn't even the craziest part.

Principal: Please don't flog me, I will tell my mummy to answer it when you give us homework.

I burst into laughter immediately and I knew then that I wasn't taking the job even if he calls me back as he promised. I can't explain it but I felt a lot of awkwardness to walk out of the school back home, because the office to the gate was a distance long enough for that awkward feeling.
