Today am here to show us the second method of rice propagation carried out in my family farm. Our farms are in categories we have the top land and low lands, the lowlands are the sections that are usually waterlogged such that the slightest rains gets the ground soaked up like you can see in the picture.
When this happens we have to decide a planting method that will suit the type of soil we have.
For the very topland area, I have described to us in this post how we plant the seedlings directly into the soil With the description of the soil type fertility and all.
The soil type and fertility still holds for this planting type, but since the field is waterlogged we do a nursery bed for the rice grains, and germinate it into the seedlings that is then transfered into the field.
A nursery can be prepared beside the farm on a dry land or it where there is no good location it can be created at home then transfer the rice seedling to farm after germination.
All you have to do is clear a desired place of grasses and stones. A little ploughing to loosing the soil.
Spread rice grains on the bed evenly then a light amount of sand is used to cover the grains.
Mulching is carried out for seeds in nursery by covering them with bananas leaves or dead grasses to prevent birds and rodents from picking the grains up.
After two to three weeks of germination the leaves are removed to expose the rice seedlings.
Transplanting to field can commence after three weeks of planting depending on the depth of water in the soil.
7-10 seedlings are removed from nursery with enough care not to disturb the root, then transfered to a spot on the field.
The distance between each bundle of seedlings remains about a foot to the left, right, front or behind.
This is done continuously until the whole field is covered.
If the water levels are quite high we leave the seedlings in nursery for more than a month so the can grow taller enough to stand above the water when transfers to field.
Each uprooted rice seedling that the root gets broken off cannot be planted as these cannot regrow its roots again. Be careful enough to pick up the rice with its roots.
Also it is important to be watchful of seedlings in nursery as these becomes food for rodents who destroy these plants and build their nest using rice leaves
Having said all these, I believe you have learnt alot about this second method of propagating rice.

Wow that's amazing, we also just started the rice planting season this month, like where you have the same season as me.
Wow, that's beautiful, am partially growing my own rice already too.
Which country is yours.
Sorry for late reply
This is a great work ma, I have not had the opportunity to see a rice field thanks for sharing
