How we practice Commercial Farming and production of Groundnuts

Hello Hive.

Groundnuts can as well be given a name amongst one of the cash crops we grow, because of its benefits and how highly marketable groundnut products are.
The oil is extracted by several local processors and used as commercial vegetable oil. These local processor also used by products of oil production to make Kulikuli also called "peanut bars" which is highly consumed within the country.

In order to produce groundnut oil has to plant a very reasonable amount of groundnuts hence we don't just plant a few rows but have our groundnuts grown in large scale.

Am not sure you remember when I brought us a blog how we were planting this groundnuts.

At two weeks this is what we got
Just two branches and few leaves.

We have joined the hired laborers to plant a very large field.
Although we ought to preserve a portion of the harvest from last year planting as seeds to be planted this year, we were in so much need and ended up using all the grains.

Moving unto cost implications.
Farming groundnut this year was quite expensive as the subsidy removal also inflated the price of everything in the market.

Groundnut seeds usually sold for 600naira was sold at double its amount.
We bought each measure of 7cups for, 1200.
Buying about 14measure with 7cups in each measure at the price of 1200 each cost us almost 17k that was spent on the seeds here

Moving on we had tractors cultivate the land at about 20k as well.
And then we have bought 3bottles of liquid chemicals to spray the farm right after planting as a preventive measure to keep away grasses.
Chemicals now cost around 4k per bottle as against when they were first introduced to us some 4 years ago where a bottle can be gotten at 700 naira.

Agriculture is not as cheap as you think and if we have spent this much so far, think of how much we will spend before harvest.

There will be weeding to be done and harvesting in which we will also be hiring laborers.
Do not expect the harvested end products to be cheap.
The country is witnessing a high level of inflation and even farming is not cheap, we will only learn to manage and adapt to the situation.
