The Changing Face of Libraries in a Fast-Paced World

We live in a digital world and age where almost everything has literally been digitalized, and the same is the case when it comes to our libraries, which have evolved from only housing hard copies of books to only a handful of them and more of a collection of e-books, which are electronic books. Libraries are important and play a crucial role in research purposes and readers' ambitions in the past. But the same isn't the case today, especially due to how the world has evolved from hard copies to soft copies of books. I mean, come to think of it, it's quite easy and helps you conserve space, knowing fully well you can hold 100 books on one device and can't carry the same of hard copies at a time.

The rate at which people visit or make use of the library has drastically reduced in this age and time due to the innovation of phones, computers, and especially internet features such as search engines that help you get information swiftly, unlike how one needed to comb through countless books in the past just because they were in search of one piece of information and how that could take hours, days, or even weeks. But nowadays, that information can be gotten within seconds, and that's not to forget that almost every book in the library can be accessed on the internet, so I don't think having just one library in the world would make people want to go there to read.

Yes, I understand there are still people who still have a thing for hard-copy books, but I believe they would prefer buying such books over visiting a library to read them, especially in a fast-paced world like ours, where it's quite difficult to get free time to yourself, so it's quite easy to just own the book and read it bit by bit, rather than travel miles to a library just to read, and then you have to travel back to face other aspects of your life. So in my own opinion, if the librarian in such a single library left on earth, she'd have a rough day; it'll be because she's dealing with people who would mostly visit the library as a tourist attraction rather than those who come to read.

I mean, it's quite normal for people to see the last library on earth as a tourist destination rather than a place they need to visit to read. Personally, I used to love reading books, but since the innovation of technology, I've evolved with time and now prefer soft-copy books, especially knowing I can even read those books while still doing something else. For example, some of these e-books have a voice feature, whereby you can listen to the content of the book and still do something else. In a nutshell, I think the evolution of hard copies to soft copies is a good thing.

Huhm, so true.
People might definitely see that last library as a tourist centre rather a place to learn. But then, if a shutdown should be on phone or Internet and we can no longer access some things, I'm sure a physical library would come in handy for knowledge seekers.

Thanks for sharing.

I also love to read hard copy but only loving is not enough. If Ebook and AI giving me access the same thing with saving my time, I will choose to do it. We need to adapt with the digital world.
