The Burden of Knowing: Why Some Truths Are Better Left Unknown

Death is a constant reality that each and every individual, including animals, experiences at one point in time or another. Like we all know death is inevitable, and it's said that no one knows the actual time or ways anyone will die, and that's why many are advised to live a good life, make hay while the sun shines, so that they won't end up regretting how they spent their lives before death comes into the picture. But then in the event that we have a device that can show when and how each individual will die, would I be willing to have or use such devices? Below I'll state my take and the reason behind it.

Do I want to know my time of death or that of those around me? And if I knew it, what would be its benefits to me? Based on my response to the later questions, what could possibly be the benefits of knowing my time of death? The only benefit I can think of is the fact that it can help me take swift action in doing things I'd love to do before I die and probably put some things in place so that my family won't have to go through struggles when I'm gone. But then will I want to know when I'll die? The response is a resounding NO.

Why is that? Because death is a mystery; it can meet one at any point in time, and I wouldn't want a situation whereby I've such a device and check my time of death, and after that, I end up going through depression and anxiety that comes from knowing when I'll die. My life might become a shadow of itself because I might end up living worried rather than live a simple life that comes from the place of not knowing when I'll die. Knowing my time of death might be a curse in disguise, and so for that reason I'm not interested.

Even though it's more or less an avenue to make money if I have such devices and can check and tell people when they'll die, I know a lot of people will be willing to pay just to get that information. But why I'm still not going to get the device and delve into such business is because there's no way I'll have such devices and not be tempted to use them to see my own time of death, and that's why it's a no-no for me.
