Success: Luck or Hard Work?

Success is accomplishing or attaining a height we've been envisioning for some time, and when we talk about how one can attain success between hard work and luck, personally I think both can bring about it, but then if I must choose, I'd say it's as a result of hard work, and I'll be stating my reasons between them, so without further ado, let's get to them one after the other.

There have been lots of situations that happen to people around us, and we immediately tag them lucky, take, for instance, meeting the right partner, a sudden breakthrough experience, and securing a good job, among many others. Why are there different things that have happened to people, and we'll say they're lucky rather than being hardworking? And to be honest, I do understand the place where such conclusions come from; we all know there are lots of hardworking, diligent people out there who despise their consistency in being hardworking and still don't get those things someone else gets easily.

However, what I think most of us see is the results, and what we fail to see is the preparation stage that was filled with determination—the person invested into the journey before they finally reached their desired destination. Besides, it's worth knowing that in truth luck might open the door into a room or position, but what determines what you'll do when you walk through such a room is the level of preparation you've put in through the years, and that's why we might see someone who gets rich out of the blues through luck and tend to lose it in no time due to lack of preparation.

Take, for instance, you're presented with an opportunity like a job, but then you lack the discipline, knowledge, courage, and experience to take advantage of such an opportunity; it might pass you by in the end. But then overall I know that hard work doesn't guarantee success; life can be dramatic a lot of times, and that's why we usually see lots of hardworking people still struggling, even though that's the case. And I realized we must still come to the understanding that being hardworking has its way of increasing our chances of being ready when the right opportunity presents itself before us.

Talking about the other question, which inquires, "What if I do a big opportunity one my way tomorrow?" This is a very interesting question, but then I'll also respond to the question with another one that'll help me determine what I'll do, and the first question is, "Will I prefer such?" And to respond to that, I'll say yes, and I'll also remind myself to not take careless action all in the mood of excitement; rather than doing that, I'll take out time to study the opportunity being presented to me carefully so I can understand what it requires and maybe even seek proper counsel where necessary so I can give it my best effort.

But beyond that, I'll advise us to not use all our lives waiting for one big opportunity. If it presents itself to us, fine, we can prepare for it, though, and who knows, the reason some of these opportunities haven't surfaced might even be because we're yet to build, learn, and improve ourselves. In a nutshell, we should work towards controlling our preparation since we can't control how opportunity comes our way. Basically, we should keep learning, work hard, and stay prepared for when opportunity comes knocking so we'll be ready to answer and utilize it efficiently.
