A lot of us (including myself) are guilty of taking our health for granted at some point in our lives. The funny thing is the mirage of a constant state of good health. Most times, when we’re healthy, we assume we will always be healthy, and that makes us live a carefree lifestyle, one that jeopardizes that health. What people probably tell themselves most times is “I am healthy after all, I am young, so let me just live my life”.
A good health lets us carry out our daily activities. It enables us function. When you’re healthy you can move and go anywhere without limitation. It is a gift, and something special to be able function at the highest level day in day out. All it takes is one moment, and everything turns on its head.
It’s funny how one moment we are full of life, healthy and ready to take on anything, and the next moment, we are down, sick and struggling to do our usual activities. I come across a lot of ill people almost every day at the hospital. People with different kinds of disease conditions. It makes me appreciate life and good health. I have learned that sometimes, people allocate their finances into other things, but barely allocate much to their health like regular check-ups, lab tests and even eating healthy. Ironically, when they get ill, somehow all the money becomes focused on their health and getting better.
When your health goes bad, every other thing becomes secondary. This is totally true because one must be alive first before doing any other thing. Scratch that. Let me rephrase. One must be alive and healthy first before doing other things. I said this because it’s not enough being alive, the good health is also crucial, otherwise one would just end up living in agony or pain or misery. The quality of our life is as important as life itself.
When you think about it, while it may look like most times, we suddenly just fall ill, that may not really be the case. Falling ill is usually a result of accumulated neglect, or an accumulation of the wrong lifestyle. It piles up and piles up, having gradual negative effects on our body until eventually, our body gives in and breaks down. Most times, we won’t know at first because our body tries to stay strong and get us going. But eventually, our body just like any other thing, gives in to constant pressure.
As I conclude, I just want to reiterate that health must always be a top priority, otherwise, it will prioritize itself, and then, you would have to spend more. There is no disadvantage to being conscious about your health and prioritizing it. The alternative, which is being sick, like we all know, is unpalatable. Most times, prioritizing health could mean implementing some lifestyle changes, and I am well aware that that could be difficult for most people, but I believe that no cost is too high when it comes to maintaining a good health.
The Doctor has said it all; prioritizing our health is essential. Often, we try to cover it up with words like "I can't be sick," forgetting that sickness is part of nature.
You're absolutely right. Most times, we think we are invincible, but we're only human
I like your topic, it's funny and sounds like a threat too. It's either you do it, or your health will do it for you, the choice is yours.
It's very necessary we examine ourselves monthly, even when you are feeling healthy.
Good health is everything, sickness can turn you to a shadow of yourself, it's deadly .
Eat healthy, exercise often and avoid self medication at all cost
