The cultivation of crops and rearing of animals for both sales and personal consumption is termed Agriculture. When it comes to agriculture and how it’s been done, we owe the knowledge we have today to our forefathers. They are our reference point, meaning they started it first and left it for us to keep it alive and going, emphasis on ALIVE. I wish we took better care of our soil, even more than the way our forefathers did in their time. They didn’t only focus on the reward, but also made sure the soil that was responsible for their survival was well preserved and maintained, that way agriculture can be practiced with ease…

Thanks to our forefathers efforts and hard work, the agricultural sector is doing quite well today, the main problem I think we have right now in the agricultural sector are the farm implements, machineries and mode of transportation. These are areas the government need to work on to ensure the effective practice of agriculture…

Agriculture is a crucial component required for our survival as citizens of a country, the impact of agriculture in our economy is huge. We need agricultural produce to survive, and survival is impossible without a good and healthy food. The only way we can have access to this good and healthy food is through agriculture. Years ago, the only source of livelihood our forefathers had was agriculture, farming to be precise. There was no better job than farming to them, and from what I know and have heard numerous times from my grandparents, farming was something they loved wholeheartedly, it wasn’t only a source of income and livelihood to them, it was their everything, it was their blood and sweat…

The sweat, sacrifices, hard works and struggles it took for them to cultivate a crop from its seed state into a mature crop is something we can’t overlook in this modern world. Do you think we will enjoy farming in this era if we are made to use the farming tools they used in their time?, no i don’t think so. In fact many of us would have ditched farming and started something else…

Imagine how beautiful and profitable it would be if at-least one member of every family in Nigeria is a farmer. I am not talking about a farmer without good farm equipments, i am talking about a farmer with good farming skills and implements. Don’t you think there will be growth in the country’s economy, but guess what guys, the number of farmers we have in this modern world is lesser than what we had in the time of our forefathers. Civilization and modernization has sent everything our forefathers labored for packing, which is quite unfair…

Even without machines and modernized equipments, our forefathers were able to deliver hundred percent. Now imagine if they had access to these modern machines we have now in the agricultural sector, don’t you think they will be extra productive in their fields. And now that we have advanced machines and equipments, there are no farmers to utilize them efficiently, what a sad story…

It’s high time we started thinking deep. We need to start thinking beyond now. If agriculture is like this in this present time, what do you think will become of the agricultural system in the next 20-25 years. I am sure by then artificial intelligence would have taken total control of the whole agricultural sector. Consumption of inorganic food would be the trend, our health would constantly be at risk. Is that the life we want for ourselves? Are we going to watch everything our forefathers built and fought for go down the drain ? Think about it and make your decision. No one is coming to our rescue.…

In conclusion, let’s sit ourselves down and do the right thing at the right time. Agriculture is important, we need to prioritize it the way our forefathers did in their time. Let’s fight to keep it alive…
