WHICH IS IT?

With all the talks about skills nowadays, be it digital or handcraft, and all the promises of how those skills can pay well, I think the skill that matters more should be the one that allows the person to be creative. I say this because whatever skill you intend to learn or are interested in, there are lots of other people that are learning it, or are already good at it. So just learning it and entering the job market might make the time used to learn the skill seem like a waste. We have lots of people that keep saying "the time I used to learn this skill, I would have used it to learn the other seemingly high paying one", but they forget one thing, most skill market are getting saturated. I mean, even the very day you decide to make the investment, someone else is already positioning themselves to land jobs.

But I think one of the major reasons why people learn skills that aren't later profitable to them is that when they first heard about the skills and the opportunities it promises, they get excited and immediately get into it. Along the line when they see that the nuances don't resonate with their inate talent, instead of opting out, they keep going, maybe to prove a point or something. Many people don't have the courage to turn back when they have gone far, even when they are going in the wrong direction. So while picking a skill to learn, one should always ask the right questions; what problem does this skill solve? What is the concept based on? How does it work? What does it really take to become profitable? With the advent of AI, how easily can I be replaced? Do I even have the zeal to this through? These questions and many more.

So, what's truly matters is not just the skill or certification. Rather, it is the creative ideas you can introduce to the field that matters. Albert Einstein was the first physicist, but because of how much he could think outside the box, that made him to stand out till date, decades after his passing.

In conclusion, don't just go for skills, go for a skill that will allow you show your creativity. Even if you are into something that seems to be limiting you, it's not too late to make a U-turn. Also, after getting that skill, make sure to go for certification. Because that is your stamp of approval that you are at least as talented as you say you are.

That question about whether AI can replace your job is in my opinion the very first thing you should ask yourself before choosing a skill to learn or a career to pursue these days. Many people are excited about all these online AI Training side gigs popping up, but they don’t seem to understand that that means sooner rather than later, that AI they’re training will be their competitor, and they just won’t be able to compete with a machine that’s literally to designed to learn from vast data sources.

It's as though you're training/breeding your replacement.
