Hello everyone!
Have you ever looked at someone you once knew so well and quietly wondered, “What happened to you?” OR Have you ever looked at yourself and realized, “I'm not the same person I used to be”?
Yes, something happened and that's change.
People change.
Sometimes, people change because they are tired. Sometimes because they are hurt. Sometimes because their priorities have changed. And sometimes, they simply discover that the person they used to be no longer fits the life they are trying to build.
I changed too!
And I'll use myself as an example.
Life has taught me things I never expected to learn. Some experiences made me softer, while others taught me to build boundaries. Some disappointments changed the way I trust people. Some situations forced me to grow up faster than I wanted.
And I've realized that not every change is intentional.

I GREW A THICKER SKIN
I wasn't always like this.
There was a time when I was so simple, so easy-going, and so painfully naive.huh!
I believed in treating people the way I wanted to be treated. If I was kind to you, I naturally expected kindness in return. If I respected you, I believed you would respect me too.
I was the quiet type.
The kind of person who would rather swallow her words than start an argument.
And because I was quiet, some people thought they could say anything to me.
I remember how a little mistake could turn into something much bigger.
Someone would call me names, say something hurtful, or speak to me in a way I didn't deserve.
And what would I do?
Nothing.
I'd just stand there.
Quiet.
Trying to pretend the words didn't hurt.
Until my eyes filled with tears and I eventually walked away to cry somewhere nobody would see me.
Then I'd sit alone and replay the whole situation in my head.
Maybe I shouldn't have made that mistake.
Maybe I should have done better.
Maybe they're right.
I carried people's words like they were facts.
Until life happened enough times that I finally got tired of carrying them.
Something changed in me.
I started realizing that someone being angry with me doesn't automatically make them right.
Someone insulting me doesn't define me.
Someone having an emotional outburst doesn't make me responsible for managing their emotions.
And making a mistake doesn't make me a bad person.
I'm human.
I will make mistakes.
I will misunderstand things.
I will get things wrong sometimes.
And when I'm wrong, I can admit it, apologize, learn, and do better.
But I no longer believe I deserve to be broken down simply because I made a mistake.
The transformation wasn't overnight.
It happened quietly.
One painful experience after another.
One boundary after another.
One moment of choosing myself after another.
The girl who used to cry over every harsh word slowly became the woman who hears those same words and thinks:
"That's your opinion. It doesn't define me."
I still have feelings.
I still care.
I still have a soft heart.
But now there's something around that softness that wasn't there before.
A boundary.
A layer of protection.
A thicker skin.
I've learned that being kind doesn't mean being a punching bag.
Being quiet doesn't mean being weak.
Forgiving doesn't mean forgetting what someone taught you.
And having a good heart doesn't mean everyone gets unlimited access to it.
So yes, I've changed.
But I don't see it as losing the person I used to be.
I see it as finally protecting her.
The girl who used to stand there and sob because someone called her a name didn't disappear.
She simply grew up.
She learned to wipe her own tears.
She learned to speak.
She learned to walk away.
She learned that she doesn't have to convince everyone of her worth.
And most importantly, she learned this:
People can say whatever they want about me.
I know who I am.
And that's enough.
Maybe that's why people change.
Sometimes, life doesn't make us harder.
It teaches us where we need to become stronger.
