Life is very precious to everyone, and nobody is ready to use their precious life just for anything. I also think that life is more valuable than anything. But it’s something we think from a general perspective. Sometimes our perspective changes when we face different kinds of situations. We usually say that there is nothing that can be more valuable than life because we don’t encounter tough situations. And when we face such a situation, we can understand life can be like hell unless we have certain rights.
Freedom of speech is a very important thing and all of us need it. It is such a right which allows us to speak whatever we want unless it’s something harmful. All of us want to share our thoughts in any subject as long as we have little knowledge about it. We should have the right to speak even if some feel unpleasant to hear it if it’s right. What if one person just got punished for speaking of his mind and the thoughts were reasonable. Some people may lose their life just for sharing their genuine thoughts. You must be thinking how it can happen? Let me share with you the history of my country.
We were independent nations from 1971. In 2009, Seikh Hasina took the position of president of my country, and it was the start of her mastermind game. She eliminated most of the opponents from time to time and she showed how dominant she was. People were getting used to dominance. She ruled my county for 17 years and during that time nobody was allowed to say anything against her as well as her government. If someone dared to raise their voice or protest against it, they were getting silent unofficially. Some people used to threaten for that kind of actions, and some people were killed to make them silent properly.
It was like in the country it was like a crime to say something bad about her government or criticize it. Most people used to keep quiet because who don’t fear the dead, but everything has a limit and crossing the limit means there must be consequences. During the time of protest of quota reform, she used violence and killed some students first to show her dominance, and it backfired. Later we came to realize that if we kept quieter all of us would meet a dead end as we already protested against her decision as she snatched freedom of speech. At last, she was forced to run away but before she run away it cost the life of many students who were innocent.
Why do those students lose the price? It’s for true freedom as well as freedom of speech. I was also in the protest, and I might lose my life also as some of my friends died when police fired on us. But none of us were afraid of the bullet or losing our life. If we were afraid of our life, we would not be in protest. We were determined to regain the freedom of speech of us. We got it but it came to us with a price and the price was losing the life of many students. The dream of freedom as well as freedom of speech fueled us and we felt like even if we die it was wroth for it and finally, we got the thing what we dreamed to happen. So, it was a dream worth dying for.
